Recently got GCA which affected my sight a bit. Was put on 60mg for 4 weeks and now recently changed to 40 mg. Of steroids- Prednisolone. With that change has come breathlessness! I was fit for my age until now. Regular gym/golf I have read that the change down to 40mg might be responsible. On no other medication.
Is bloated stomach- puffed up neck and face part of the deal?
Is that caused mainly by water retention. Should I be drinking lots of water and if so why.
increased appetite - always hungry.
Thanks all.

My husband had this condition about twelve years ago. he was in hospital for a week and started on 80mg a day of steroids reducing monthly until he was down to 5mg a day then tapered to every other day then every three days until he was able to stop. The steroids did give him type 2 diabetes he was monitored every month now every three months. At the time he did not have any breathing problems, he has now a lot of health problems but the GCA has never been attributed to any of it. Steroids at high doses can increase your appetite and is a likely cause for your puffiness. Steroids usually help with breathing problems not cause them. I do hope your eyesight is ok now, I do know how serious the problem is. Sorry do not know about the water. My husband has never had a reoccurrence since.
