i am down to 3mg on steroids from 60 but i am loosing alot of weight

Hi ballyboy my husband was also on 60 mg of steroids and now down to 2.5 mg and has also lost weight, not sure if is down to steroids or his illness (PF), his appetite is still OK. I am sure someone will come along and know the reason why.

Weight loss is a concern if it is unintentional. Are you eating well and have you increased your daily exercise? You don't give many details, but you do mention going down on your steroid dosage.

Steroids can increase appetite and cause weight gain. In fact most people experience this awful side effect. It can lead to a redistribution of body fat. I am hesitant however, to speculate that your cutting down on steroids is causing your weight loss. Any sudden, rapid and unintentional weight loss should be fully investigated by your medical team.

I am sure you are feeling worried , hence your post. Please do seek the opinion of a medical professional as there are so many scenarios as to why you could be losing weight.

I too lost weight while taking a few courses of steroids (nearly two stone). I know weight gain, rather than loss, is a side effect of steroids but since I came off them my weight has at least stabilised, so maybe there are a few exceptions(?) If your weight doesn't stabilise soon you should inform your GP.

In 2012 when first diagnosed with COPD, I was in a bad way with severe chest infection and chronic constipation.... Doc was called and straight to hospital...........My weight was down to 6 stone 2..........Since then, and now classed very severe, been taking prescribed fortified supplements and trying to eat normally........Just last week I hit the 7 stone mark.......

Seems COPD just burns it off....I am on 2 sterooid inhalers and of course prednisolone when needed......but still built like a zip.
