Does anybody know if i can get a hoover that is supposed to help people with allergies etc (by being a sealed unit ) without paying the VAT. It would be just for my own use. Thanks.

Hi
There appears to be no vat exception for hoovers, any reduction would be made by the supplier. Who in turn would have to be registered to supply goods that are except from vat.
My understanding is you have to be registered with a disability for VAT relief. We get VAT relief for things for my son, certain things like his special bike ain products I need for him as he is registered disabled. I believe that is the current situation, I may be wrong!
Thank you for answering my post. I am disabled and get PIP etc i am just not sure how i am supposed to go about these things. Stone said it is through the supplier not the seller but it is too late now for me as i bought it anyway because i cannot breathe right now as i have a chest infection . I will let you know if it helps ( it hadbetter help at the price i have paid!)
I try and use certain sites like complete care shop and other disability suppliers as there's a section when your ordering that you can opt for VAT relief and confirm the disability. I'm not sure how you go about it via standard retailers though I've never tried.
I have found that retail outlets can be helpful, especially if they are not part of a big chain but local largish stores suppliers. We had our bathroom modernised and got vat relief on some of the items, like the shower, because they were to help me. I also got vat relief on my sit and rise chair bought from a normal but local furniture shop. They quite happily took my blue badge as proof. CareCo an online company who supply Disability aids give you a list to choose from. It is always worth asking the retailer, providing evidence of your illness/disability, the worst they can do is say no. If they say they don't know ask them to find out their company policy. I volunteered with a disability rights group and found widespread ignorance, even from people who ought to know better.
Thanks for the info, a lot of this kind of thing is kept quiet and people find out by accident. I get why they don’t want to broadcast it , there is a middle ground though.
Once more, thanks.
