I have pulmonary fibrosis, I cannot go on a flight for a holiday without oxygen. When I hire a concentrator, it costs me £400 for 2 weeks, this is often as much as the holiday. Anyone any ideas????

Hi
I presume this came with the extra batteries required. When you look at the total package cost up to £3000. £200 per week is reasonable. The only other alternative is self purchase new or used. There is a pinned post Respitory Equipment for Sale.right of screen.
On long haul flights, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic will let you use the aircraft’s internal oxygen supply, or they will supply an oxygen cylinder, depending on the aircraft type. You need to book in advance but then you don’t need to hire a POC at all.
For short haul you need to make your own arrangements but BA are unusual in allowing you to bring an oxygen cylinder rather than insisting on a POC. This might be cheaper than a POC, although how you get it filled for the return journey might be complicated.

Hi, thanks for the infoi. Didn't take oxygen I hired an Inogen one G3 concentrator as I only need 2 litres a minute at present. But if I take 2 holidays a year, thats £800 hence, looking for an alternative.
How much do you pay for travel insurance and does it specifically cover your medical condition?
I have never needed oxygen when i have flown ,it might sound strange ,but i can breath much better on the Plane than anywhere else .
I wish you all the best .
I have never flown since I started using oxygen in 2013. I go on cruises from Southampton and I use to pay for the cylinders Which were delivered to my room on the ship, it would cost from £400 depending on how many litres a minute I was using.
I then decided to buy a portable concentrater which cost over £3000 plus £700 + for an extra battery.
It has worked out cheaper than paying for the cylinders each time and if I pay for the fit to fly test the portable oxygen concentrater I have can be used on a plane. It would fit behind my legs under the seat of the plane.
Each year I have my travel insurance from my bank and I pay extra because of the medications I take and I do let them know about the oxygen but that’s not included in the extra cost.
Hope this is helpful.
Hope you find the right oxygen solution for your travelling requirements.

Hi Sam, it depends where you are going but I'm off to Spain in a few weeks I will tell you what I'm doing ( I usually hire a POC). Go on national health authority web site, type in your destination, e.g. Spain, click on the region, click for pre arranged treatment and a template letter will pop up. You then need to get a copy of your hoof, letter/prescription off doctor, proof of EHIC, passport, scan these with template letter (it's all there easily laid out on the site) and your oxygen will be at your hotel when you arrive. No cost.
Also the best insurance I've come across and trust me I can't get insured, is MIA online, they will only cover you from 8 weeks before you go but I can't fault them, honestly I was gob smacked at what I was charged for 3 weeks this time ( I'm a returning client) I will leave it to you to be surprised. Don't bother doing it online, ring them up. That's my tip of the day..
Good luck x
