Hi

The Inogen G3 may be available through your oxygen provider, speak to your Respitory nurse. The latest model gos to setting 5.

If you do or need to purchase your own it’s probably best to go higher than you require, to future proof your needs.

Only decide on purchase if you have tried first, a 3 setting may be lower than the equivalent 3lpm found in cylinders.

Try out the SimplyGo Mini. It goes to pulse 5 and I have had great results from mine. Regards, Paul

Advice from Stone is spot on. Make sure you try one first and consider future proofing.

Trying one is so important because the small POCs only deliver a bolus of oxygen at each setting (usually 10ml per setting). If you are currently on a continuous flow machine or static cylinder and receive your O2 in terms of litre/min then the amount of oxygen you get at each litre/min setting is much higher than you will get at the equivalent setting on a POC e.g. POC setting of 1 provides 10ml O2 but 1 litre/min O2 provides 17-34ml O2. POC setting of 2 provides 20ml O2 but 2 litre/min O2 provides 34-84ml O2. The difference is quite large and explains why some people find POCs not as effective as continuous flow O2. It should be said others do seem to find POCs equivalent to continuous flow so its essential you check it out before buying.

Re comparison of the 2 Inogens - the G3 max bolus size is 50ml on setting 5 and for G4 its 30ml on setting 3 (both approx 10ml O2 per setting) so settings should be equivalent between machines in terms of oxygen supplied.

Simply Go mini seems to be virtually same as Inogen G3 in terms of weight (5lb) and max bolus size (50ml).

POCs are also quite noisy -again worth checking this out first. If weight and sound is an issue liquid O2 may be a better solution.
