Hoping for abit of help 'translating' my CT lung scan results letter please (don't worry, it's short, but my specialist/secretary have a habit of making spelling/grammar mistakes which doesn't help! In a nutshell, been v poorly for two years, chest pains, persistent sweating, weight loss, chronic pains, hospitalizations, treated for 'bronchiectasis' re current pneumonia infections for approx 8/9 months a year, can not shift strep pneumonia and Haemophilious influenzie then get three months rest around Summer months, so I'm on Azithromycin for three months now but I also have had lots and lots of rescue needs throughout this year, too many antibiocs to count, I'm also asthmatic and on Fostair and Spiriva inhalers. So my C.T scan results were such a huge huge relief but I'm also confused, I'm not entirely sure what my specialist is saying in this letter, ...can you have bronchiectasis (obviously in the early stages) and it not show very clearly in a CT scan?? I will obviously speak to my specialst , but it's very difficult getting hold of her, so I very much appreciciate any imput from you lovely people out there! Thank you in advance 👍
Hello lovely lung people! : Hoping for... - Lung Conditions C...
Hello lovely lung people!
Hi sounds like good news AS this two types of bronchiectasis.
The other you never really want to see THATs called frank bronchiectasis.
Think it’s like tree in bud🌳 final stage
Hidden , which of the two is like tree in bud final stage? I have tree in bud (not sure what stage) and my consultant is muttering about possible bronchiectasis.
Tree in bud is frank bronchiectasis am sure he would of used terms like that if you had it.
Definitely I have tree in bud but he attributes this to either infection (past, present or both) or my Small Airways Disease. He's unconcerned by it. Frank bronchiectasis has never been mentioned.
Put hebbe jebis in me when I seen that WISH had never looked it up.
Will say doctors don’t tell us it all tho.
You should be extremely happy that you don't have Bronchiactasis which is a horrible disease.
Bronchiactasis involves a lot of lung cleaning - at least twice a day and a lot of medicines.
I am sure your doctors will be able to make you all right.
Try to remain happy.......
You will be all right....
Sounds like good news, given time the infection should clear maybe you might have to have another scan to be sure . Sometimes the face to face meetings make things much clearer. It is obvious as you have asthma there must have been some reason for the repeated infections, which a specialist may be able to explain. Take care, try not to worry and hopefully you will improve soon, maybe different inhalers might lessen the symptoms or a reveiw of your asthma as chronic illness can change over time. Best wishes.
I think you'll feel much better when you meet face to face. Before hand write down a list of what you want to ask, I'm terrible at leaving and then thinking I wish I'd mentioned that etc!
It seems similar to mine I was sent for CT as my X-ray showed hyperinflated lung but the CT was good so it was down to the infection I suppose. I also had pneumonia few years ago took ages to get rid I was on abs for long time. Since then it's made my asthma worse in the winter and sinus infections etc. I'm feeling much better now but the pneumonia took about 6 months to pass. I've had countless bronchitis since then. Finally think I'm on the mend now with good diet and exercise regime.
I think the CT is good news for you and discuss in length what's been happening when you see him/her with your infections, also about how to keep them at bay in the future.
But for the both of us I think we're lucky we don't have that and we've just got our asthma and infections to contend with. It's not the best but it could be so much worse that's how I see it!
Thank you for your kind words Shancock, sounds like you've been through alot, hyperinflated lung!? Haven't heard that one before, hope you don't mind me asking but what do you suffer from? kind regards
I understand your point - no 'significant' bronchiectasis may mean there is some but less than thought/expected... or may mean they can't see any... but maybe mild bronchiectasis can't be seen. I think they do this to avoid positive statements and avoid litigation in the event they are wrong.
I don't know the answer, but I wish you well getting to the bottom of things.
That's EXACTLY my what I mean soul saver!! Spot on!!! Thank you.....it's like a mystical riddle.....which you don't really need when you want to be knowing wether or not you've got a lung disease or not is it!? Hahaha! (Not a funny topic but I had to laugh at the letter) Thank you
