Well 3 years back at 61 years of my age, I had been detected as having Ocular Myasthenia which responded only to Prednisolone . Having daily dose of 30 mg it was tapered down to 5 mg daily in further 12 months. With this dose of 5 mg per day, after almost next 12 months (Dec 2016) I had swallowing and some breathing trouble which were decided to be due to Myasthenia Gravis. Again it responded to Prednisolone which was increased to 60 mg per day in Dec 2016 and now has been tapered to 35 mg on one day and 5 mg on another day and My Neuro Physician is in the process of tapering it. I want to know from second source about the side effects. I particularly have breathlessness and fast breathing rate. But if I start walking fast, then, within next 10 minutes breath rate gets rhythmical. Is it normal ? I will be thankful if somebody tells me.

I am always out of breath anyway when on the move. I am on O2. I have never heard of that particular side effect but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. My side effects are mainly insomnia, irritability and weight gain. And when I tapered to a lower dose I actually got itchy legs. And worse mood swings.
I am sure someone else who is better informed will be along shortly.
For Water retention cut down on salty and sugary foods, and drink low sodium high calcium and magnesium mineral water. I was told by the endocrinologist. No need to buy special supplements. So far so good.
Hello Arun
I am on daily steroids between 20mg and 5mg a day according to daily events. I try to keep to 10mg max because the doctor told me that’s when side effects start. I am happy with that anti inflammatory dosage, for long term effects Im better off taking more puffs of my 4 inhalers if I need to.
I suffer Emphysema and COPD 23% lung capacity remaining and I am 70. I smoked until diagnosed 12 years ago. Pneumonia took my through respiratory failure and intensive care for 3 weeks 2 years ago. I have used Prednisolone extensively for all that time continuously varying doses from 40 down to present day 7 mg day. I have suffered bone loss and teeth loss and retention of water giving me moon face and swelling about my body. I seem now unable to come off them entirely. I was first prescribed 12 years starting with a short course but gradually due to infections and three Hospital admissions I have fond the short periods getting longer and longer. But they seem to help me breathe which is what I so need. Its always a pay off .
