Does anybody know where I can buy a second hand oxygen concentrator in the uk?
I cannot afford new and the oxygen tanks are so heavy.
Thanks in advance

Hi ineedair, have you been told you need to be on oxygen? If you have, you should get free concentrators through the NHS, speak to your respiratory nurse.
I get two concentrators one downstairs one for my bedroom, a back up cylinder in case of power cut, you also get three portable cylinders for when you go out, I swapped my three portable cylinders for a portable oxygen concentrator, because I go to visit relatives on the train and it saves me having to take three cylinders on holiday with me, because you also bring the cylinders home to return them. I have just kept one portable cylinder as back up.
Good luck Ian.
I agree with Ian1967, speak to your nurse. I too struggled when on liquid oxygen. I now have a portable concentrator. I need 6 - 8lpm so mine works on pulse rather than continuous flow. As i need a high level the battery only last for 1hour but that is better than the liquid oxygen which only give me half an hour, unless i carried the other 2 with me, which at 1/2 stone each i couldnt do on my own. I ended up buying an extra battery and charger for mine and that cost just ovef £500. Took me a while to save but worth it as i now have peace of mind and im not afraid to go out alone. I did ask if i could have a spare battery but they would not supply one. I hope you get access to a portable concentrator, its so frustrating struggling with heavy equipment when you need your oxygen just to put one foot in front of the other.
Kindest regards
G J
Your oxygen supplier should be able to offer a portable concentrator in place of the cylinders. Have a word with your respiratory nurse as she can order one for you. If you do decide to buy do be careful as they are very expensive and second hand machines usually come with no guarantee.
ineedair,if you do have to go down the self purchase route check out some of the items on our respiratory equipment for sale link on this forum, many second hand concentrators often have some guarantee /warranty left running on them as they have sometimes only been purchased recently but check with the seller that this is transferable to you on purchase,as usual buyer beware is the key word.......regards Skischool
