Hi new to the site and just need some help. Not been well for a few weeks now, been on amoxicillin and did start to feel a little better, but I don't like the palpitations I am having. Told GP and they don't seem to help and now getting a bit anxious about not feeling 100% yet. Legs are feeling wobbly but I am trying to get through it. Just want to be told not to worry by GP but hey no luck. Any suggestions or anyone with same sort of symptoms 😁

A good antibiotic for chest infections in Clarithromycin, its more expensive so often not prescribed by GP's, but works better. Does interest with other meds though if you take anything else.
If you have reoccurring infections you should have an X-ray in first instance and ask for it to be investiged, I've learnt that chest infections should be very rare so if they're frequent then there's a reason for it that needs to be dealt with. Usually 3 main reasons Lungs, sinus or reflux are responsible for chest infections that are frequent.
I have just had 2 x amoxycillin, followed by 3lots of doxyciclin, ended up very ill needing hospital admission, that didnt happen due to no beds, given ciprofloxacillin for 10 days, they eventually did trick. In my opinion I dont feel amoxicillin work at all, dont be fobbed off. Im going to be much stronger this year!
Perhaps you need a different antibiotic although the GPS insist mostly that Amoxicilian is first port of call I usually end up on another type to combat a infection I cant help with the palpitations it could be anxiety has that can make you also feel wobbly and ill but I would insist to your GP that they need to find out and put your mind at rest I hope you are feeling better soon xx
Too much caffeine can cause palpitations. I have been getting a lot lately. Then I realised I had been drinking a lot more coffee than usual.
Too much chocolate and too many energy drinks can also do the same. And watch out for Lucozade, Dr Pepper, Coke, Pepsi and some other soft drinks - they too have caffeine in.
Hi-Please insist for a referral to a cardio specialist-there could be a number of reasons for your palpitations apart from stress- PAF- is one which I suggest you mention gently to your GP.
These infections are hellish. Who else can you turn to if not your GP. GOOD LUCK!
I live in California and we’ve had what they’re calling “respitory flu” I’ve been hanging onto it for over 3weeks, my doc didn’t seem to be very worried although I have plenty of other lung issues. My husband had it so bad he was delirious. Our hospitals are overflowing w/people panicking over it. I understand how ugly and painstaking it is but I do believe it’ll pass. Best treatment I believe is gonna be good nutrition, staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest! Best of luck on speedy recovery
Hi, sorry your feeling poorly. I have COPD and from time to time need anoxicillan but don't get palpitations, however, I do get them when I use certain inhalers. My doc doesn't seem too concerned either but I find them alarming to say the least.
It means that it's a catch 22.... I have to choose.... Brethless or palps. Good luck and hope you're better soon
I have amoxicillin for a standby antibiotic and had 2 courses about 5 months ago didn't do the trick so my doc gave me clarithromycin and I have been clear of infection since I have asked that I have that one as my stand by and hey ho she wrote the prescription feel much better about it now.
I have had COPD now for 4 years and cope pretty well until I get the dreaded Chest Infection, which I have again now. As previously have been put on amoxicillin for 10 days. Have to say that 3rd day into the anti-biotics I am struggling to even walk around the house, tight chest and frequent but very brief panic attacks. I moved to Southern Spain to get away from the UK weather and it really has worked out better, but obviously not perfect.
I am interested in this other drug though, Clarithromycin, is it that much better ?
I suffer a lot of chest infections and amoxicillin does not work for me. I tried the doxicillin and they did the trick. I asked my GP to change the antibiotic on my rescue pack to the doxicillin, which he did. As soon as my chest starts to feel tight and I am breathless, I find it difficult to know when to start my rescue pack. Fear of being so I'll makes you want to start it immediately but I think perhaps this one will just pass and I can deal with it without them . I find if I used a lot of ventalin, the blue inhaler, I do get palpitations. Try to avoid anything that will make them last longer ie, coffee and carbonated drinks. Mine pass if I rest or have a nap. Hope you feel better soon
Thoughts are with you our worst time of year xxxi am having exactly the same problems the palpitations can be because of inhalers or anxiety I know it sounds futile but just keep going back to the doctor and ask to see a new one if you still get no where and there’s plenty very good people right here that would be only to willing to help you get through this. Remember it doesn’t matter how many times you have to go back to doc if your not well go there lists will alert a problem there not dealing g with and never ever be afraid to call NHS24 they have been my saviour on many occasions god sped to you Chelsea 22 xx
Hi I've had a chest infection since 21st December and have been on 3No types of antibiotics together with steroids (Prednisolone) none of the antibiotics has improved my shortness of breath. Usually I find Amoxicillin not a good treatment and find far better results with clarithromysyin or Doxycycline. Amoxicillin is the cheapest drug together with being an all round antibiotic. With an infection your whole system suffers, add an antibiotic and you will feel as you do. You will get used to it and recover.
Hi. I was very ill last sept through to Dec with what started out as a chest infection, I had Influenza A. I was put on Curam Duo Forte 875mg and had 3 lots before getting better. I have moderate copd, the mucous was terrible. I also had tacycardia, 189 beats per minute and was put into hosp, on meds for that now. You need strong antibiotics to get you better.
Well, I'm not a doctor but I do suffer from chest infections rather more than I would like due to having been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis.
To be honest, neither Clarithromycin nor Amoxycillin touch my infections. The only antibiotic that actually works for me is Co-Amoxiclav, a form of Augmentin.
In some people this can apparently cause severe stomach upset and some other nasty side effects. I am very lucky that this doesn't seem to be the case with me, I get a little tetchy and my sleep gets bit interrupted but apart from that, it is a very effective answer to chest infections.
I hope this is of help and you nail this problem soon. It is misery and I can't sympathise with you enough.
