A little Advice on part Lung Removal

Hi

Let me start by saying just how lucky I am to have had my lung Cancer caught early with a high chance of full recovery ( this is just a note for a little info )

I have a part of my right Lung removed in Nov last year I have been fastidiously following Drs advice on recovery . I still find myself with a dry cough during the day and night which seemed to be getting better but seems to have plateaued out now and laboured ( not shortness of breath ) breathing ( I can now walk over a mile and a half as long as I take it steady ) . If anyone reading this has had this procedure done I would be grateful for there experience's .

Again let me say I know I am extremely lucky with my situation compared to so many on here and no matter what restrictions I have in the future it is so much better than the alternative

Derek

Hi I haven't but a friend of mine did. Due to repeated pneumonia infections she had half a lung removed. She wasn't diagnosed with copd and was young in her mid 30's.

It took her at least 6 weeks to start feeling better after the op as she was very sore for a while. She said she had never felt better and was running round with so much energy compared to how she had felt before. It was a complete success for her.

I wish you the same outcome. Take care. x

My wife Cecilia had an upper left lobectomy during a biopsy for a coin spot lesion,no consent was asked for but that is standard procedure as the lesion was found to be of a non small cell cancer type, unfortunately after approx 6 weeks of slow steady progress she suffered a massive stroke because a blood clot travelled to her brain.i am convinced she suffered that stroke as a consequence of the lobectomy so my jury is out on on this procedure.

May i wish you a continued and speedy recovery and a cancer free life Derek you are obviously one of the many success stories of such procedures............regards Skis and Scruffy cat.

I had the lower lobe of my left lung removed early 2009 due to cancer. I had acute breathing problems afterwards but did my walks and exercises and felt 'normal' after a couple of months. I had no other problems, but emphysema was diagnosed approx 2 years later (I believe that would have been diagnosed whether I needed the op or not, as I was a heavy smoker previously). Hope your cough clears up soon, but if not do ask your GP about it.

A chap goes to my singing group who has been living with just one lung for many years. He said he really wished he had known about the benefits of singing exercises years ago.
