Desparate to quit smoking.

I am so addicted to cigs/nicotine and I am in major crisis.

I have received the nicotine patch and the nicotine mist. I try to use these products and I have an allergic reaction. The patch leaves red welts and the mist closes my throat.

I am in dispair, I have to quit!

Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you all.

Hello Lindb . I am so sorry you are having a hard time. I affected and heard friends talking about quitting. It is a very difficult situation to be in. I cannot give any practical advice, but there are many here who can.

Take it a day at a time. Sending you very best wishes.

Can xx 🌹

Hello Linda. I tried all sorts of aids, with no success, and then I tried an ecig (with the blessing of my consultant). I gradually reduced the number of cigarettes I smoked, and increased the use of the ecig. Works for me. Good luck. XXX

After 40+ years of smoking and many unsuccessful attempts at giving up I switched to vaping. I gradually cut down the nicotine content in my e liquid and haven't touched a cigarette in over two years.

Hi Linda

I was diagnosed with copd last June and I was so angry that cigarettes had damaged my lungs that I immediately gave up and turned to vaping. I never thought that I would be a non smoker, having smoked for 40 years but I have now reduced the vaping and hardly need that now.

Best of luck, trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

Hi I used the patches but they aren't suitable for everyone. I also used the little white inhalator (with nicotine in) and this helps a lot.

I presume you are in the UK? Your best bet is to book a smoking cessation appointment with a nurse from your surgery to discuss all the stop smoking aids. x

I am in Canada, BC to be precise. We have medical coverage for cessation programs.

I have smoked for just about 60 years. I have severe copd so every puff I take is agony. Right after I have had a cig my resolve is there. I am going to stop this, then an hour later the resolve goes out the window.

I am so glad not nearly as many people start smoking these days so will not have to go through this agony.

I do have a vaporizer but have not given it a real try, guess I should.

Thanks for words of encouragement.

Do you have anybody living with you? I only ask as that was my way of giving up. My partner told me I was not smoking any more and just literally kept an eye on me to make sure I didn't. The first three days without smoking were the hardest after that it just got easier to go without. I found the secret was that when I wanted a cigarette I had to find something to do to occupy my mind until the feeling passed. You can do it if your really determined

Please try an e-cig, no tar or carcinogens and Public Health England have stated that they are at least 95% safer than smoking - I think the 5% is to cover people stupid enough to carry batteries in their trouser pockets along with loose change, then wonder why they've had their "bits" burned!

Here are a couple suggestions. Cutting down one or two a day and filling in with cinnamon or peppermint gums with xylitol. Use the peppermint candies and cinnamon candies as a fill in. It's very important to keep your lungs clearing. We have used Clear Lungs red by Ridgcrestt for years for moms lung problems including copd. I am sure there are other good formulas. We use mullien herb religiously. If we run out we use liquid Guaifison over the counter. CHECK MY SPELLING. IT IS A DECONGESTANT. I buy it at the dollar store or at Wal-Mart for 88 cents. My sis has copd. She swears by Breath Easy tea. After 50 years of smoking, lung cancer and copd she is off cigarettes for almost a year. She tried numerous times over the years but finally won tho she craves daily she replaces it with what I have mentioned above. Even lung cancer didn't get her to quit. Her partner had a heart attack and open heart surgery. That is what it took. So I kept her well supplied. Thank God. Wishing you the best.

I am editing to include hopefully without offending, my belief is that our creator has given us all to heal ourselves. It's hard to change the course man has set us on, and sometimes it's to late for this life. Also my sis has gone back to her church and has renewed spiritual strength. She credits her ability to stay clean from cigarettes and alcohol to her faith although she still craves especially when under duress. Also my other sis who smoked for 30 plus years has credited her twelve step program that she attended since she was young do to alcohol abuse. She also still craves but she utilizes any support system available and talks about her feelings when she has them. I am so proud of them because I realize the torture it is. Asking for help and support is a show of strength. God give you continued strength.

Try the nicotine gum. It worked 100% for me.

I am in Canada also and if you have medical coverage then try Champix. You may feel nauseous so eat something before you take a pill, you may have vivid dreams. If you truly want to quit these will be minor inconveniences. Stick with the program and you will be an ex smoker in no time. I quit 11 years ago with Champix and never looked back. I see your post is 3 months old, perhaps you have already quit? 😀
