Slight Hilar Prominence on the Left Side

Hi, I have just been told I have a slight Hilar Prominence on the left side. I have had a niggling cough for about 4-5 months, went to see a Doctor about 2 months ago who said it was probably just a stubborn cough, but it didn't go away, so went back to docs who sent me for an xray. The cough started just after spending several days clearing out a very dusty old loft. I have now got to go for a CT scan. Can anyone tell me what to expect. Doc says it very unlikely to be cancer, but possibly sarcoidosis. Does anyone have any 1st hand experience. I am 47, ex smoker, (gave up about 10 years ago), male, physically fit, no other symptoms other than occasional itchy rash on tops of thighs and buttocks that sometimes extends to torso. Also itchy scalp. Whats the chance of cancer? Whats the chance of Sarcoidosis. All help appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I have taken some Anti Histamine tablets over the last 4 days which have hugely reduced the cough...could this be to do with allergies...dusty loft etc. Also stopped eating spicy food and avoided alcohol and caffeine? Any ideas always welcome as still absolutely frightened to death!

Hi there

I was diagnosed with sarcoid last year ..also in my 40 's.

Don't assume anything until you have had those scans ..don't read things on Google cos it causes a lot of uneccesary anxiety.. if the scans confirm sarcoid just expect to be trialled on meds that work for you ..takes time..may need a lung biopsy confirm it's defo sarcoid ..the just get on with living the best way you can ...leave the rest to god/fate xx

I'm ok atm ..on azathioprine and hoping to go back to work in Jan ! I'm blessed to say I'm well atm .

Happy Xmas ..take care

Hi All, thanks for your answers. Just to complete the story....I had a lung function test and CT scan, got the results the next day....everything is normal. The Hilar Prominence was only slight and the doctor put it down to my standing position when the xray was taken. The CT scan confirmed no lesions, no cancer, no Sarcoidosis, everything was clear. Thank Goodness! The only thing on the CT scan was a small Gall stone which apparently may just dissolve on its own, but need to keep an eye on it. This last two weeks has possibly been the anxious I have ever felt but I have learnt two things from the whole experience, firstly, avoid self diagnosis on Google, and secondly, don't ever take your health for granted. So off I go back to the gym! ...Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas, and and good health.

Just one other thing I forgot to mention, the cough has more or less gone with anti-histamines and the doctor put it down to the dusty loft, possibly the dust or fungal spores...if it doesn't clear up completely I may have to have a course of steroids
