Cooking on gas.

Hi.

I moved house 3 weeks ago. It's been hard work and very tiring. I have severe COPD and am waiting for Lung Volume Reduction Surgery. I've been finding that my breathing has been very bad in the evenings and originally put it down to tiredness.

But.....am now wondering if it could be something else. For the first time I am cooking on a gas hob and am wondering if this has anything to do with it - especially as the increased breathlessness starts while I'm cooking dinner early evening, I've always had electric cookers before.

Im no expert but i remember a tv program saying that thear is often a build up of fumes ( carbon dioxide i think) when useing a gas cooker. do you use a extractor fan if not try opening a window but get a carbon dioxide moniter just incase thear is a problem with the cooker

Hi I have bronchiectasis and gas impacts my breathing. I have difficulty coping with all kinds of fumes. We rented a property at one time that had a gas stove and I had to buy an electric hotplate to cook my food on as I could not cope with the gas.

Hi, I think it’s more likely to be the time of day that is affecting you. I have severe copd, and my breathing gets worse late afternoon, until I take my evening inhaler. I’m much better since LVRS in August. Try cooking at lunch time, and see if the gas still has an affect?

It may just be tiredness and stress from the move, but it would probably be a good idea to get the gas cooker checked for safety. I have bronchiectasis and had a gas cooker until two years ago, and now a gas hob and have never noticed any problems.

Thanks for everyone's replies to my query. I have a carbon monoxide monitor so don't think it's that. But as the hob is quite old I think I might just get it checked and in the meantime cook with the windows open!

If it is down to the stress and tiredness moving house causes then hopefully time will sort it out!
