Deceiving..

You’d think you were in Africa 😎 with that huge palmtree in front of Mum’s sheltered home. Wind bites today, I am getting too comfortable here obviously, moaning already 😃.

I’m catching up on embroidery, I am making Christmas presents for all the nice care staff of both homes!! Angels!! 😇

Guess what?? I go and buy the paper at the newsagent and he gives me free digestive biscuits!! Original Mc Vities samples!! They must be marketing them in France.

Well I couldn’t have been happier!! Feet up, cup of tea and naughty digestives, I may even dunk them!l

Have a good afternoon xx

Fran

It's almost like you're on a personal retreat, as much as a holiday Fran. Lovely to have time to spend with your mum and with yourself and I think the whole medititave nature of needlework will be very therapeutic. Are you doing any reading or writing ? Being someplace else, always gives me an urge to scribble and huge amounts of 'stuff' end up on the page. Sometimes 'stuff' I hadn't consciously even acknowledged until being away from my usual routine freed me up to write about it.

Hi Billiejean

How are you this evening??

Yesterday was freetime today was back to business. The podiatrist said Mum had bad arthritis in her feet so she tried to contact her GP. I went to drop a note saying she needs homecare, we will see..

Tomorrow they are delivering the new tv!! Then Saturday I am spending the day with the ladies from the French LAM association from this area, we are having lunch, 7 of us. I am so touched they have organised this meal.

Yes I read the Jay McInerney trilogy lately, different, between Fitzgerald and Dos Passos.

I write yes in French, I have my own blog. So much going on in this world..

Embroidery is very therapeutic..and creative..I need new glasses I think 😃

Wishing you a very good evening Billiejean xx

Looks similar to the building I lived in down the coast in Cassis. Wonderful blue skies even when chilly - IE 15 degrees!

Cassis is beautiful..

Sounds like your feeling really comfortable with you mum, and with the bonus of propr biscuits to dunk. Don’t get me wrong, I love French biscuits, but they’re not a patch on English ones for dunkability! (Is that even a word?)

in reply to helenlw7

Thanks Helen xx

Nothing beats an English biscuit! I have to stay in the hotel opposite. There is no room in those studio flats. It gets costly but I have a deal with them, off season anyway.

She moved there 15 years ago. She was fit then..it got complicated the last 4 years..I may have to move her back, we’ll see..

Have a good day Helen xx

My mum is 82 and still lives in her own home with the help of carers, but the house is a huge rambling house and is becoming a liability. She has agreed to move into an apartment in a retirement village but the town where she lives only has one and they’ve all been sold. I seem to spend much of my time on the M6!

in reply to helenlw7

Ah yes I know what you mean, you are tiring yourself out..my parents are separated so I have Mum, 90 in the south and Dad, 88 in Switzerland. I had to leave London it got too much travelling being sick. I certainly miss my life in England.

Dad couldn’t take care of himself at all so I moved in with him until he needed full-time care. And I am not allowed to take planes anymore, luckily there is a direct train from Geneva to Toulon once a day.

Still I can’t keep on coming and going for emergencies, something will have to change or somebody and it will have to be me 😉

Have a good rest Helen xx

We’re planning to improve my situation by selling up and moving to the Fylde coast in Lancashire. That will only be ab hour from my mum, so I will be nearer in an emergency. Our children are all for it - as long as we buy a house big enough for them all to stay at the same time! Our plan is to put this house on the market in January.

in reply to helenlw7

Ohhh do you want to?? I am meddling but in view of my experience I would advise against it. I had physiotherapy at 5pm and he told me every time you come down it takes a week for your mother to tire you out..you can’t say no and she uses you..what does she do when you are not here??

Good question..I am trying to organise care for her..it is better..we are daughters not carers. We are too close to handle their patient status in the best possible way..

Thinking of you Helen xx

We have talked about this long and hard, and every which way. We’ve listed plus and minus points. One of our children already lives in Cheshire and our daughter is also planning a move north, work permitting.

My husband and I both come from the Lakes, but moved to Birmingham fo his job forty years ago. Although it has happy memories for me - our children were all born here, l loved my job until the RA and asthma forced me to give it up, and I love my house in leafy Bournville, but I have never enjoyed city living. Our plan was always to move back up north, but I want to live by the sea to help my breathing. The Fylde fills all my criteria - the sea, good hospitals, not to close to my mum, and m and s!

in reply to helenlw7

Ok Helen sounds like a plan, a lovely move too 🌸🌷🌺
