Day out. !

Hubby and I decided as the weather was so lovely we 'd have a day out and about . So off to Lincoln Castle we went . Haven't been for years and we heard there were lots more to see. As we entered the prison area we came across a member of the castle staff in costume narrating the story of her husband who late 1700's was the hangman . We stood for a few minutes listening then the noise started ....... a school party from I believe the Thurmaston area were let loose . They were like wild animals , running riot through the cells, up & down via stairs and lifts ,,,and screaming and shouting their heads off . The story teller was getting hoarse trying to shout loud enough for everyone to hear .In the end she asked for someone to tell these kids to be quiet. I walked out just in time to see the teacher arrive, surround by these kids I could'nt get at her ,but I made sure with a look she knew what I was thinking. .......A s we walked through the cells I was muttering about the behaviour of these school! children to my husband ,suddenly two girls came upto me to apologize for the behaviour of their class mates. ........They told me the name of the academy they attend. But no sign of the teachers , or any explanation as to where the teachers were allowing the class to behave as they did. On the 30th October there's another group visiting the castle from this Leicestershire school /Academy,. Let's hope this next lot will behave.........Must admit the whole episode rather took the shine off our day out .

What a shame Jo. The poor lady trying her best to speak must have been fed up too. The teachers should encourage the kids to be quiet and not run around screaming. Xxxxxx

As a former teacher I feel it is not a question of encouraging them to behave but telling them!

Hi carnival, l chose the word encourage simply because teachers today don’t have much control over the children they teach. As already mentioned, parents will be at the school demanding an apology because their child was reprimanded. Crazy world we live in. Xxxxx

My husband was a primary head teacher and knows all about that! The parents usually got a dusty answer. In any case legally they should have enough adults and for the good old health and safety reasons should be more careful. The old prison at Lincoln is quite a dangerous place to fool about in! On the other hand they could always be locked in!

Pity you couldn't manage it! I had a totally different experience at a swimming pool. My friend and I were just about to leave when a class of young children arrived. We waited for them and every single child said thank you; unfortunately the teachers did not! So I went up to them and said how impressed I was by the children, the teacher looked pleased until I said "it is a pity you don't follow their example". He had the grace to look ashamed.

The sad fact is that teachers seem to have little control over their pupils these days. Any attempt to control them has their parents coming raging into school complaining. In fact, it’s parents who should be taking their children on such outings, not teachers. IMHO. What a shame your day was spoilt in that way.

Hi Don , Have contacted the school, Was wondering if I had done the right thing , had a nice chat with a member of staff ..... , there have been quite a number of complaints . From what I can gather the school have this matter well in hand.......

Good for you! A few lessons in good manners and consideration for others may be of more benefit to them than days out.
