Hello to all of the lovely forum ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿฅ€๐ŸŒบ

Today was the day I really lost my patience. I took Doxycycline for 3 weeks not for my COPD. So last Wednesday I finished my course at the morning. At Wednesday evening I started to develop a very bad cough and I even got a bleeding, yes down at my harbour. Lol and a terrible itch. So the coughing got worse the next day and I called my GP for an emergency appointment. Nothing free. I called every day at the morning to get one and explained my situation. So the coughing started to get painful and I could hardly sleep during the night!

So today again no appointment to get. Very sadly it really not happen often at my GP because there are at least always 3 doctors or more, was not even busy as I stopped by today because it's open till 7pm. So my boss actually sent me home because I could hardly talk on the phone. So I left at 3pm and tried my GP.

So my honey told me come let's get you to the hospital. So we went. It actually was quite quick after 40 min a lung doctor saw me. Told me that I developed a side effect from the antibiotics and that my weezzing is quite bad. So he even had a look down stairs. And told me to that is a site effect as well. I shall not take them anymore. Another antibiotics I can't take.

So he gave me steroids and a cream. It was the quickest ever at the hospital! But of course he ask me why I don't go to my GP they know that I suffer sometimes with my COPD, complety normal with those illness. So I told him that I tried to get an emergency appointment, but no one was able to see me. It was quite upsetting for me to tell him that I didn't get to see my Doctor.

So he updated my file that I have been seen and told me that he will call my GP why I had to go to hospital.

So we went home and I was feeling already better because he gave me 8 to take right now and 40 more.

At 18:34 I got a call from the surgery that my doctor want to talk to me. Honestly she told why I not came by today or call in to see her?...... I believe there is something not right or not? I told her I called 26 times to get an emergency appointment.

Story short she apologized to me to make it easier next time for me to see someone. She also told me that she was quite embarrassed to get a call from the doctor at the hospital that my condition is not good with that cough and weezzing.

The funny thing is she told me that I should call a couple of days before? Ummmm... What you mean I ask....well when I have problems breathing. How in the world shall I know when I get problems....well very thoughtful of her. As told me that she has updated my file too to squeeze me in at the next available place.

As well the nuts I spoke after ask me if I want to come down tomorrow and get my flue Jap?? I told her that I am not able to get the one, because of the coughing. Oh she said, ok but I shall call to get it done.

What for a fantastic day my friends!! Hallelujah!! ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿฅ€๐ŸŒน๐Ÿฅ€

Thank you knitter, I hope too ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

I was told 14 days is a max on doxycycline to treat an infection, if it hasnโ€™t work and comes back with a vengeance, it is because it doesnโ€™t treat the bacteria so you have to change antibiotics.

Also if there is a lot of mucus blocking the bronchia you need pred, nebuliser etc because the antibiotics cannot get their work done.

I think it was in winter 2016 I couldnโ€™t get over that bronchitis in both lungs, took me 6 weeks to finally get the right treatment.

I wish you luck and a lot of rest, fluids and patience..x

I have bronchiectasis and was prescribed doxycycline, a 14 day course, a few weeks ago for a chest infection. On the third day I was violently sick after taking it but blamed the fish I had just eaten. The next day the same thing happened. My GP suggested taking the antibiotic out of the capsule and mixing it with yoghurt. I did this and was OK. A week later I had no choice but to swallow the doxycycline capsule with food as I was out and about. I was violently sick again. So I assume that I am allergic to the capsule ingredients. The odd thing is that I I had taken the same antibiotic a couple of months earlier with no problems.

Wow..Too much of a good thing maybe.. I wonder how long those meds stay in our system really. I always take probiotics when I take antibiotics these days. I do eat fermented live yoghurt as well. And rice! I swear when I was on clarithromycin all I could eat was rice for 7 days to settle my stomach. Awful stuff.

I also have Bronchiectasis and have an emergency meds pack with Doxycycline, Prednisone, Salbutamol and Tiotropium Nebs.

Every time I use to start a courselves of Doxycycline the first dose always made me violently sick within the first 30 min. The only way I have found to beat this is to take the first 2 capsules and drink a whole bottle of water as it says on the instructions, then lay as flat as possible on my left side for 45+ minutes. I have never vomited since using this method. I can then sit up and have the rest of my bedtime meds.

Regards, Rib

Sometimes thats half the problem getting past reception. I know they have to try and weed out the time wasters byt having a long term breathing problems can be quite difficult and you need to see a doctor.
