I am wondering if I qualify for any benefits or a blue badge
Qualification?: I am wondering if I... - Lung Conditions C...
Qualification?
Hi Morlers, to be honest none of us are qualified to say if you can get benefits or not the best thing to do would be to apply and see how you get on , its all dependent on how your disability affects you ,
Best of luck
Cales xx
That would very much depend on the impact any health condition had on your ability to live your life. Some with very serious lung problems continue to work full time and others find their life is very limited at an earlier stage. We are all so different.
Hi
The Government no longer have a benefit advisor service,, but you can use either of theses.

For PIP
For Blue Badge
For housing and community tax contact your local council.
despite the fact, the home I live in has own transport and own blue badge I needed one for the kind people who take me out after a bit of argy bargy the local Council accepted my application on its own merits.
Cales has hit it on the head. It will depend on your abilities to do anything. However I had a Blue Badge before any of my benefits I now receive. At first each council did all the assessments and it was them that decided if justified. However it did become a postcode lottery and the councils got together and decided they would use the PIP Mobility award and criteria. They will still issue Without? But it is a lot stricter now. It states that you cannot walk more than 20 metres without severe discomfort? ( DLA was 50 metres)
If you worked but cannot now then you can Apply for ESA this comes in 2 parts which are : Work Related Action Group Or Support
It will be very much a case of your own Pride and what / how it is stated on the forms.
If you are over 55 go to CAB or Age UK. Personally I prefer CAB.
I was delighted to get a Blue Badge and was surprised as I had my assessment on one of my good days so walked better than usual. There's nothing lost by applying. The paperwork is a bit of a faff but worth it if you get it. I didn't get carer's allowance. Don't know why, but there it is. Perhaps I should have appealed but I didn't. Good luck!
Carers allowance would be paid to someone who is caring for someone in receipt of disability benefits.
My wife gets PIP for her disability, I get carers allowance for looking after her.
I realise my mistake - I got my allowances mixed up. Should have been Attendance Allowance. Senior moment. Lol! xx Moy
Morlers
You may qualify for a blue badge but you need to apply to your local authority to make the initial application, they will likely then direct you to the relevant officer, likely you will need an assessment. Benefits you will need to approach the Dept of Work & Pensions for either a PIP (depending on age) or Attendance allowance if over 65, they decide how much they think you are entitled to, it's a massive form tho' of some 35 questions. I think it's set as an endurance test. Good luck but be prepared for the form filling.

Hi Morlers, the best way to find out if you are entitled to things is to apply, but as already stated you will need to fill in many forms with often many pages. Most are dependent on how your illness/disability effects your daily living and the rates for some things are based on age i.e working age or retired.Good Luck
Thank you so much for all your replies - I don't think Ill qualify - even though Ive got COPD it hasn't affected me too much as yet and do aqua aerobics twice a week and the COPD exercise class once a week. I think the main criteria for blue badge is trouble walking which I don't really have - except for my dodgy hip but nothing to do with COPS. My husband has a blue badge but he has had cancer so deserves it!!
Wow, Reading all these comments Re PIP, Blue Badge, so Helpful..I agree about the amount of forms to fill in, to RENEW my Blue badge , I had to submit a Hospital Letter saying I am Terminal, eventually got my Renewed Blue badge. Also, I had applied for a review of PIP bout 2 months ago, just received a letter saying they are sending a Health Professional to asses me face to face on the 22nd of this Month, at least I don't have to go to there office which is a Traumatic experience in a wheelchair. It's all a Means Test, and can bring on Anxiety Attacks just to look at the amount of paper work to fill in, Thank God I have my husband as My Carer (Unpaid) as he has to work. Good Luck to all of you , I would suggest you ask your Local "Welfare" to help, They do Help for the first time of applying....
