Irressa/dentist

Hi all, has anyone visited their dentist and had local anaesthetic to have filling done while taking irressa? Only my dentist is a bit nervous about doing my filling or root canal work, I asked the Macmillan nurse and she said it's ok. I'm just a bit nervous because the young dentist is a bit nervous. To be honest it might be because she knows that I had a Tia stroke and cardiac arrest back in February the 14th this year. Has anyone had work done on their teeth while taking irressa?

I don't take that drug but I have just had some work done and my dentist rang my consultant to double-check stuff. Maybe yours could do the same?

Hi, I had considerable dental work, fillings, root canals, bridge e.g. all done during the 27 months in which I was receiving chemotherapy. Basically, I never had any problems, but the dentist and endodontist had me start a round of antibiotic ( usually amoxicillin ) as a preventative measure the day of any dental procedures. Best Wishes,judg69

Hi thanks for that. I don't mind having any work done on my teeth but I have to take a blood thinning tablet because I went in for a lung biopsy last February and ended up with a mini stroke they call it a Tia stroke and I also had a cardiac arrest so my dentist is a little bit nervous about doing any work on me. I am nervous aswel these days. If the tooth has to come out then I will have to go to hospital just in case anything should happen and they will have everything there in case of emergency. All I want is for my tooth to be filled. The young dentist I am seeing is sitting in for my original dentist while she is on maternity leave. My dentist will be back in October but I'm hoping that I can hold out till then otherwise I will have to go to this young lady. She was very nervous and horrified when I told her what had happened last February, she clearly did not want to do any work on me as she sent me to hospital and they said that I just needed a filling and I should go back to see my dentist to get her to fill my tooth.

If it gets worse and requires filling before October, go ahead and get it filled, but not with the substitute dentist. Find a different , more capable dentist. Regards, judg69

The only advice I can find is that you should inform your dentist and he/ she should ring your consultant for advice if they have concerns.

A good dentist will be up on which drugs will effect dentistry, if they don't know that one they must find out.

NB for everyone:

this is why you must fill in all your medication on the forms pre-treatment at your dentist. I know I must not have anaesthetic containing adrenalin for the meds I take - apologies though, I cannot remember which one but it's either statins or steroids. They usually have non-adrenalin anaesthetic.

Thank you to all who replied to my message. I think I will look for a new dentist. I will research into this.
