Not joking never felt so ill WAS a stones throw from throwing my ring up.

Needless to say am at doctors tomorrow asking why it's intermittent and why it's making me so ill.

How why I never ended up in hospital I don't know BUT as you can guess AM not happy these warning are being ignored by my GP.

There are so many reasons for blood pressure to go up and down the list is endless. This blood pressure could be a meaningless abnormal reading from the machine. A high blood pressure is never diagnosed from one reading but a series of readings taken over time. The blood pressure in your picture depending on your age etc is only on the limits of perhaps starting treatment. Yes see your GP but give him a number of readings as this will give him a better picture of your blood pressure at different times of the day. I hope this helps.

I don't want to tell you it is nothing but don't be that scared. I lived for years with my average blood pressure higher than that - Only lately its more in the normal range and remember if you worry it will go grazy - relax have a pint and a raw potato - That will bring the blood pressure down quickly.

in reply toPietba

Raw potatoes? Never heard of that. You do realise raw potatoes contain a poison which is toxic to humans, don't you?

When they old and go green and start to sprout roots yes, but no one is suppose to eat old potatoes. We use this remedy all the time. You grate the potato and eat it - It is well known in South Africa.

Really!? Well, I never. What is the active component...? What does it treat...?

LOL I'm really not in the fortunate position to analyse everything that I consume, but do know it drops your blood pressure fast when critically high. Cannabis can help with stomach cancer and my wife eats a handful cranberries when she get bladder infection and sorry I do not have the chemical composition of that either. However if it is poisonous I'm sorry I missed the label on the bag of potatoes stating its poisonous when consumed raw. I am surely a walking talking miracle who's blood pressure is now fine. I however did noticed quite a few signs in my wife's and friends consultation rooms that states that Hypertension can cause quite a few problems if it gets out of hand.

Thanks. I'll never be too old to learn. I'll look that potato remedy up to ascertain what causes the decrease in BP. Maybe the chemical involved is already used in Beta-Blockers or other vascular meds...?

A bit later on having read several articles...

Well, the answer seems to lie in the amount of Nitrates (NO3), Magnesium (Mg) and Potassium (K) found in many vegetables. The medicinal effect is similar to that of ACE inhibitors. However, the articles I read included (raw) beetroot, garlic, broccoli and other fresh vegetables high in Nitrates. No mention was made of raw potatoes, just cooked ones; i.e., Baked potatoes with red, purple or white skin. The skin must be included when eating potatoes. If cooking Green veg they should be steamed, never boiled. Eating broccoli, garlic, beetroot in their raw state (juiced), preserves the effective chemicals.

Small Clinical Trials using the above appeared to reduce BP by 3 - 4%.

Yes, I didn't really notice any symptoms when my blood pressure was around 180/120 according to my home BP monitor. When I went to my GP he checked it and confirmed it was in the red zone and started treating it with 2 types of meds. It's now in a much safer level, about 130/90.

Mine went to 167 over 75 when I missed tablets for two days. My bottom number is always good.

Mine's much better now it's being treated, though I still sometimes notice my vision pulsating with my pulse.

Try not to worry too much - worry will increase your BP! Fortunately it is very treatable, and one reading tells you very little. Your doctor might well give you a 24 hour monitor to see what is happening. It will probably be a case of 'just take the tablets'. Good luck

Hi, Just read about your BP. I have just finished 3 weeks of taking my BP 3 times daily. Mine was 206/l05/99.at one point, with constant headaches . was up high and down slightly every day until my medication was changed, now have it checked fortnightly by nurse. It has come down a lot . I never have had what you say normal BP always been tad high, but this change was due to alteration in medication ,practice nurse is keeping eye on it now and refers to doctor any changes, good luck

Hi Jeff , all the concern about your father will not help your blood pressure so firstly calm down. Now some well meaning advice from a fellow sufferer. I have had intermittant high blood pressure since taking the pill in my twenties. In fact when I went into the walk in a few weeks ago mine was 209/ 85 but they still let me go home :) Maybe what ever makes it go up is what makes you feel ill. Mine raises when I have infection, I have been to the heart specialist and he is quite happy as it is only borderline high. Your bottom reading i.e 94 should be investigated and you are right to be unhappy with your GP ignoring such things, you need to be well to care for your dad and peace of mind for yourself. Good luck with sorting it out.

I have been known to have 240/110. Last time following exercise on a PR programme I started a nose bleed that lasted 15 hours and I spent three days in Hospital as a result!! I am on three pills now for BP and manage 147/78 usually. Don't worry too much so long as you sort it with you Doctor and soon. Take care. PS curiously I never know when my BP is high unless I check it as you do.

Hospitals (as in going to A & E) will not be able to treat you for High BP. Unless suffering a stroke or some other condition which is known to increase your BP there is very little they can do. Everyone gets irregular High BP. It should only be of concern if it remains high for several consecutive days. In which case medication to lower BP will be prescribed by your GP and the GP practice nurse may be asked to check your BP once a month for a number of months. This will show you and your GP the long-term BP trend.

Trips to your local hospital with an A & E Dept., will result in unnecessary NHS expenditure. They are what they are; Departments for serious "Accidents" and "Emergencies". Too often they fill with drunks or wimps who have stubbed a toe or had some such minor injury.

Chronic conditions (long-term ailments) are invariably managed by your own GP, with required appointments for scans, x-rays, and other tests or specialist consultancies assessed by yourself in partnership with your GP.

If your local practice GP is truly "ignoring" your "warning" concerns, then ask to see another GP at that practice or change to a new practice.
