Thanks to all who replied! I will try various diets, but I do love my sweet things!!! Someone has suggested I eat breakfast, not a normal thing for me, or have several smLl meals during the day, which I don't fancy. I am also taking Statins for a heart condition & morphine patches for pain, as I also have a chronic back condition so exercise is hard. Now that I have put on this weight I don't even fancy swimming. Once again Thankyou for the replies and suggestions.LizzyM57

There is a good weight loss site which is full of help and advice, In the pinned posts is the NHS guide where you can work out your BMI and it tells you how many calories you need to eat to lose weight.

To successfully lose weight and keep it off ban the word 'diet' from your vocabulary and replace it with 'healthy eating'.

You might be surprised by how much you can eat and still lose weight. If you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode and hangs onto the calories in the form of fat. This lowers your metablism therefore making it harder to burn enough calories. This is why so many people yo-yo with their weight.

Having 3 meals a day is fine with snacks as well. Having breakfast is very important as this sets the pattern for the day. You need protein such as eggs to start with to ensure you aren't hungry and your blood sugar level doesn't dip too much. This is when you automatically reach for the fattening foods to try and raise it. Protein keeps you feeling full for longer. You can still eat sweet things in moderation. Don't forget even thin people eat chocolate and biscuits!

I never use to eat breakfast but now look forward to a bowl of that Oats so Simple in the morning as it comes in many flavours my own favourite being the apple and blueberry so you are getting some sweetness without actually needing to add sugar. That or a couple of eggs is ideal to start the day.

Healthy eating and calorie control is the only way to go. Do yourself a huge favour and wean yourself off the sugar. It's so easy to consume 2000 calories a day. Have you thought of weight watchers? P

A few Magnums, pizza, followed by a couple of slices of cheesecake, a large bottle of cola 😂

My diet trick: don't buy any of that stuff 😭😭😭 and don't shop when hungry.

I'm trying the 800 a day (1st day today) wish me luck!

peege lol ok, things I don't usually buy but will reconsider now, maybe not the coke tho. Good luck with the new diet, I find plenty of fish, eggs and vegetables don't add up to many calories at all (all the healthy stuff really), just bought dark choc digestives, they seem to be full of calories :) Hope it goes well for you, best wishes, JoHarr

Most of my life I have been very slim and always ate everything I wanted. I don't have a sweet tooth but when I became diabetic and have always had asthma plus other health problems I found that my lifestyle changed I have always been very active but no longer and so I started to gain weight not masses but more than I wanted so I didn't go on a diet I just ate a sensible diet I am not as sil as I was but for my age I am still quite slim. Now when you are told you must not eat something I.e sweet things, what happens you want them even more even me who was always able to leave the chocolate on the shop shelves. What worked for me when I started to crave sweet things I found that one small square of chocolate held in the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing satisfied the craving. I got the taste and that was enough the cravings gradually got less and less. I then got high colesterol owing to my love of foods which in its own way is as bad as sweets but I just cut back a little and my colesterol is down to 6 I know it's possibly easier for me as I am reasonably slim to start with but you need to decide which you want the most sweets or weight loss. I do feel much better and am much more active than I was, not as active as I would like but I have other problems. I wish you luck losing weight but you will feel the benefits. lilaclil suggests the NHS guide which is an excellent idea. Rosabeth
