Sitting in my campervan

Opposite the beach.

With mug of tea and sandwiches

Within easy reach.

I watch the many families

Having picnics on the sand.

Buckets and spades, beach balls.

Deck chairs fully manned.

Children playing happily

With grown-ups joining in.

Just sitting here watching them

Makes you want to grin.

Thinking over past times,

My life has not been bad.

I've been a kid, a youth, a lover,

A husband and a dad.

I've had my years of playing,

Now it's time to rest.

Just me and Midge my little dog

Consider ourselves blessed.

Brilliant. Gratitude is soooooo important. Thank you, for reminding us.

I'm a great believer in gratefulness which some like to call blessings. I have a recording which dates back to the 1940s, of the Luton Girls Choir singing 'Count Your Blessings' which I play whenever I'm a bit down. Never fails to lift me back up after a bit of maths, ;-)

Midge looks like she wants to go for a swim

I took that photo after I'd packed up ready to leave. She doesn't like having her seat belt fastened and wanted to go back out.

Hi don how u doing I am new to the site I've had copd since 2014 6 months after I lost my husband, I have never smoked but was around people that did all my life I also have asthma? I was told sea air might help the asthma and copd

β€’ in reply toBettyboop2345

Hello Bettyboop, nice to meet you and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear that you have lost your husband. You must be feeling things difficult just now. But you mustn't worry about your COPD, it's never as bad as it first sounds. It seems a little unfair that you have it at all when you have never smoked yourself, but then smokers like myself didn't know the damage we were causing. I have lived by the sea all my life and I'm sure I would be worse than I am if I hadn't done so.

You will find a lot of very friendly people here who will be only too glad to help you in any way they can.

Thank you don where do u live I am in kent have been thinking of moving by the sea but was told to go for at least a week to c if it helped but dnt like going on my own and I have only lived in this area fo 5 months so dnt really know anyone

I live in West Lancashire quite a way from you. Your best plan is to take a holiday in one of the seaside resorts near where you live and see if the sea air improves your breathing. It will seem strange so soon after losing your husband, but in general seaside landladies are a friendly lot.

Were off next week with our caravan to Malvern - can't wait! I always feel better when I'm away, and Alfie Schnoodle loves going in the caravan. Then it's only about 6 weeks until we venture north to the Fylde coast to see if we can find somewhere we'd like to move to. I love your poems, keep writing.

Good poem. I often count my blessings, especially in the man I married, good choice and I was only 17 when we first met. No experience so very lucky. My 3 sons too, couldn't wish for better, as their wives. .

I was lucky in that respect, 54 years of happy marriage.
