I'm not a doctor however I do know a reading over 90 shouldn't hurt your chest. Must be something else going on. This site is for sharing, it's not for medical advice docs should be giving. Hope you figure it out.

Hi Laddieday without the advice given by our knowledgeable members a lot of people would be sat at home suffering in silence often on their own. They often just need a bit of support and pointing in the right direction.

Anyone looking for a diagnosis are told that we are unable to give one and are advised to visit their GP, A&E or ring the appropriate service.

Take care.

You will most likely not even know when your oxygen drops UNLESS it drops below an 88. At 88 and below is when the danger to your organs comes in to play from lack of oxygen. I've been on oxygen for 11 years now. I would give anything if I could just go shopping or just outside without it, but I can't. I wish you well and lots of good luck. Easy breathing, my friend...

Let me add to my comment by saying, the chest pains is something that I would defiantly get checked out. I've never had chest pains and my O2 levels have dropped as low as 57 at times. The type of pain is something to look at as well. Are they sharp pains, dull pains, etc.. I don't post a lot on here but I do read the post on here, everyday. There's a lot of smart, intelligent women and men, that belong to this site that can give you lots of important advice. Don't be afraid to ask, that's what these sites are created for. Laddieday anything over 90? Anything under 90 shouldn't cause you chest pains either. You said, "This site is for sharing,it's not for medical advice"... When we share our personal stories or those stories of our friends and family, that's not giving direct advice. Don't you think?

Yes I agree. Sharing what our doctors say is helpful. It just is so important to me that a person gets medical attention. When my levels drop below 90 then I do have chest pain. But not all people will have chest pain. However to allow the O2 levels to drop to the 80's on a regular basis puts a strain on the heart. I think that's common knowledge. Laddieday

Laddieday I didn't suggest that it would be ok for anyone's O2 levels to drop into the 80s. For no period of time is that safe. When our oxygen levels drop below 88 it starves all our other body organs of everything they need to survive. It doesn't just effect the heart, it effect all organs. If you say you have chest pains then I'm sure you have chest pains. When anyone's oxygen has dropped below 88 and stays there, then they should be on supplemental oxygen.

Laddieday one other thing, Yeah, I'm not certain that O2 levels dropping puts a strain on the heart is a common knowledge thing, you think?

Hi angelac73 "Welcome" to our friendly and informative community.

The oxygen levels you mention would not concern me but chest pain should always be taken seriously. I suggest you contact your GP or ring 111 and ask for their advice.

Take care.

Hello Angela

Feel free to ask about anything on this site, that is worrying you.

They are a helpful , supportive, and friendly bunch, and between them know about most lung issues, and will try to help or advice you.

Obviously, we cannot give specific medical advice, .. that should always be discussed with your Doctor.

But don't feel you are on your own to figure something out yourself.

I would speak to your doctor, who will explain how your O2 levels can vary, and when to seek help.

My O2 levels are regulary worse than those you quoted, and l do not get chest pains, so for this reason l would go and see your doctor.

Good luck

xx

I've had a cold with asthma running (a bit) to chest clinic for an appt and sats were 96 -thought they'd be much lower . That's asthma for you. That's when I do the buteyko thing to settle down.

My sat is 93 or 94 most f the time even when tested at hospital clinic but there never seem to be any concern.

Maybe it's something else causing you pain.

Hello angelac73 . I was told that you need supplemental oxygen when your levels drop below 90. But of course you may have been advised otherwise. Pain in the chest usually happens to me when there us an infection. It probably be best to talk with your doctor.

I'm really glad you found us. I hope you get some answers soon. Please let us know how things go.

With stats like that you don't need oxygen my stats are always between 88-90 not on oxygen must be some other reason

If your chest hurts then maybe the start of a chest infection readings of 91 to 98 are pretty good im on oxygen my reading drop when i take mine off ,my sats are usually 92. Get checked out with your gp

I am told doctors look for a reading between 92 and 88 for someone with COPD. And would only referr you for oxygen if your sats were below 88 at rest. As for the pain. Any pain in the chest should be checked out. I wouldn't worry to much about your sats at the moment. They seem normal. Your sat will drop when you are doing things. But if they rise again when resting that is normal. Take care

My sats are always under 96 and when laying down go down to 80 ish. I think you need to tell your GP or oxygen nurse.

Angelac73 asks: "What do I need to do"?

Duncan replies: "From your description your stats seem healthy; only problem is the chest pain, hie thee to the doctor, as all the other answers suggest..."

I get chest and back pain caused by lung hyperinflation (lungs press on nerves in chest)

When your working your muscles harder than usual to breath for long periods of time, this can cause the feeling of chest pain but is often just muscular pain Always best to get it checked out.☺

Sorry I didn't mean to sound harsh. It's so important to see a physician that specializes in heart and lung function. Hopefully you are. I wish you the best. Lsddieday
