Hi, I’m new to using Oxygen when I’m moving about but I’m not always sure when my oxygen drops too low! Can anyone recommend an Oxygen monitor that I can wear that sounds an alarm when it drops too low please? A type of watch would be good. I’d really appreciate some advice.

Oxygen monitor
Hi there, I bought a few at the start but the Salter one from Amazon has been the most accurate. It doesn't sound an alarm, I just keep it on my finger when I'm going to do anything. My nurse said the watches are not so good, I have a withings watch and it's always out by about 5-7. I'm used to the feelings inside my body now so I know when I've dropped too low, hubby can see my purple lips too. You'll get used to it, don't worry, it takes a bit of juggling around and how I haven't broken me neck before now I'll never know 😂. All the best Lesley xx
Thank you Leslie, I will look into the monitors you spoke about. I’ve got the oxygen concentrator which I use when I go out which I’m getting used to but I can’t seem to get on with using oxygen at home., especially for things like going upstairs just to go to the toilet. Like you say maybe I should wear my finger one frequently.
Many thanks and all the best to you too. Sue xx
Hi Cyril, I purchased the Oxipro 2 from Amazon. It sounds an alarm when your sats drop to 92% if that's any good? I find it quite accurate but the beeping a little annoying and I drop quite a bit lower when walking.
Hi Cyril,
The oximeter I use now is the best one I have used. It was given to me by the PR team when I completed PR during lockdown. The brand is Jumper it seems quite reliable, does beep when P02 drops to 93. It closes down after a few minutes though.
You could take yours to your next oxygen appointment and test it against the one the nurses use and see how it calibrates alongside ?
Go well.

Hi Cyril,
How did they diagnose you needed oxygen?
I keep getting conflicting information from medical people, regarding the need for oxygen on exertion. I am a bit concerned, as my sats go very low on exertion.
hello, I was prescribed oxygen when my sats were 78 at rest. I think the normal rule is below 88 at rest.
I had an assessment for Pulmonary Rehabilitation Course where they do what I can only describe as a walk test and my oxygen levels dropped below 90 but quickly returned to normal on resting. Ideally I was told they don’t like my oxygen to go below 92%. You would need to get referred for an oxygen assessment. I hope this helps. Sue x
Hi Cyril,
Thanks for answering my question.
Yes, I did that course. At the end, my oxygen levels were worse than when I begun - down to 86 after the walk - the rehab lady told me they had taken them to quickly after my walk had finished.
No more was said!
Can I jump in here please anng18. Please keep an eye on your 02 sats when you are exerting yourself. If you are feeling more fatigued or notice they drop then please push for a full oxygen assessment. Good oxygen levels are important to keep your major organs, especially the brain healthy.
Go well.
Pauline
Hi. That definitely doesn’t sound right to me! They are supposed to take your oxygen straight after the walk to see what your levels have dropped too and also assess how long it takes to return to normal. I agree with Pauline and you should push for a full oxygen assessment. Sue
I bought myself an oximeter which tells me when my blood oxygen is low which is quite helpful was 12 pound off amazon x
