I have mild COPD.I develop dysphonia when using a steroid inhaler. How can this be avoided;I take the usual precautions -spacer and gargling ?

I use the Spiriva Tiotropium inhaler which is helpful.I understand Spiolto respirat combination inhaler is better. What experiences have you had ?

Peter

Hello Everard,

I can't help with anything about the Spiolto inhaler because I've never had one. I have Spiriva Respimat and get on well with it. Speak to your GP about your steroid inhaler -recent guidelines are suggesting that they shouldn't be given to patients with mild COPD because of a risk of pneumonia.

Good luck, Sue x

I didn't like the Spiriva but then I don't like inhalers after so many years they all have side effects and my throat is killing me..I am now officially addicted to glycerine blackcurrant pastilles as recommanded by my GP..

I had it about a year ago and didn't find it very effective. Perhaps I didn't use it long enough as I was again given it earlier this month and find it is benefiting me now. It contains both a LAMA and a LABA but is only needed once everyday so is very convenient. I believe I read quite some time ago that taking the combination of these same two medications/inhalers together in one inhaler is more effective than taking the same two medications separately.

It seems different inhalers benefit different people so the best thing to do is try it and see how you make out. Spiriva is one of the components. It does not have a steroid component so if it does help you without the steroid that is a good thing.
