Hi andyuson. It would help to have some details, for example how much weight and over what time period? Could you say what lung disease you have and how long you have had it?

Losing weight with COPD is common as it takes breath to eat and chew and oxygen to digest food. Members here will always recommend a good diet, ensure you get the vitamins and minerals you need. Soups and shakes can make eating easier. There are 'build-up' drinks if you lose too much. Try having a chat with your GP or give the BLF nurses a ring tomorrow on 03000 030 555 during office hours.
Hi it's impossible to give you any advice without more details. I presume as this is a lung site that it's related to that?
Hi Andy, weight loss is quite common with copd. Best thing would be to see your doctor and ask for a referral to a dietician. If your weight is too low you are more at risk when you have a flare-up. Sometimes people lose weight as it feels hard to eat - one thing you can do is eat lots of small meals throughout the day containing lots of the main food categories, carbohydrate, protein and fat.
webmd.com/lung/copd/copd-sy... You learn something new every day. I always thought it was weight gain due to steroids
When I lost weight I was told to eat little and often I was also told to have snacks and to eat cake.
Best thing to put waight on is snack on penute butties well providing dont have nut allergy.
You need fast absorbin food stuffs .. Stay clear of foods with magnisum as magnesum puts coating on guts and stops food being absorbed.
I put weaight on and have been more breathless i think this lot more to it than just eating THINK our bodies balance lung fuction with weight.
You could try a high protein powder. The company I got it from, (can't think of the name off hand) did all kinds and had one for people wanting to gain weight without having to exercise. They were reasonably priced to and a bag lasted a few weeks. xx
Saw a lung specialist in Oct 16 & mentioned I had lost 14Lb(6kg) in 1 year. She said it was because I had so many chest infections in the year(that's why I was referred) & fighting infections makes your body lose weight. She gave a bit more technical; explanation than that as to the change in your body but sorry I can't remember the detail. I am now under weight for my height but certainly don't lack appetite. Hope that helps
