41° expected here in Spain today. The wind from coming up from the Sahara is like an hair dryer. Impossible to go out. Staying in air conditioning and on oxygen. Still, I guess I'm still one of the lucky ones!

Breathless in Spain
You have my sympathy. You do the right thing and I hope it is not going to be too unbearable for you. I don't know what part of Spain you are in but it looks like the whole of Spain is very hot today.
All the best to you, and hope it gets a little better very soon.
Hi Jennifer. I'm in the Javea/Denia coastal area which is half way between Valencia and Alicante. It's very beautiful here. This is the hottest it's been all summer. I understand it's coming your way
Sounds wonderful................now if you can stay cool all will be well, so take it easy, let your husband cook you a lovely tea, and r e l a x .
It's here now on the north west coast and it is hot hot hot and humid too. I've had to come in from the garden for the slightest effort is making me er....sweat. I have a bottle of Elderflower cordial in the fridge and a bag full of ice in the freezer so I'm happy. Hopefully it will have cooled down a little before we go for our walk
I'll do my best to keep cool. The air is too hot to swim even, and we've had fires raging not far from us so ash and smoke too!! Not all is as it might be in our little piece of paradise!
Your Elderflower cordial sounds wonderful. Do you make it yourself? And a nice walk in the cool would be lovely too. I'm thinking I'll have to buy a treadmill at this rate as it's not been possible to go for a walk ... not least because we live on the side of a mountain!!
Enjoy!
Not so good then with the ash and smoke. You have to do what you can though don't you. Let's hope it isn't going to be with you for much longer. How could you use a treadmill in that heat - I'd wait a bit......heh heh
I get it from Sainsburys but other supermarkets sell it too - I bet you can get it in Spain. It is very refreshing. Belvoir Fruit Farms Elderflower Cordial.
Pleasant evening to you Michelle.

... and to you Jennifer. x

Hi Michelle I saw on tv that your area is under threat of forest fires r u ok
Jimmy
Yes we're fine thank you Jimmy, although the air has been full of smoke, which didn't help!!
We're about 10km inland from the area affected by the recent fires (still a few flare ups as the land is so dry). Fires are a huge danger but the local firemen - the bomberos - are well experienced and simply fantastic; and the pilots dropping water from seaplanes and helicopter buckets are just spectacularly good at their job. Huge respect and gratitude.

Do you live there or are you on holiday. Haven't been abroad for a few years now, as struggle to breath in sort of weather you describe, also nervous about flying. Used to love the heat but plays havoc now including really swollen ankles. Hope you can get out soon. Jean
Thanks Jean. I've never really be that fond of the heat .. why do I live in Spain I hear you ask!! It's a long story but has a lot to do with my husband who lies out in the sun in extreme heat. I think he's barmy!!
Hi Michelle, it is cold and raining here in the West Midlands today but I'm not sure who is better off, I think it is easier to warm up than to cool down. Although I must say I love a bit of warm weather.
take care
polly xx
Was in Spain in May while the was a mini heatwave here in Britain
While there we had thunder and lighting...4 days of rain...2 day of overcast and a super dooper brilliant day.Temperature never above 18c..was a bit annoyed but now Im thinking someone was looking out for me.😆
Hello MichelleT51. I think I recall you saying that where you are in Spain, there's not much in the way of support, respiratory wise yet ? Do you see many folk using oxygen ? I'm presuming that normally the Spanish climate would be easier for people with lung issues but if there's no respiratory clinics/nurses, how would one manage. You said it was touching 40 degrees - OMG - I would going all unnecessary unless I'd got air con like yourself!!
Hi there!
There are quite a lot of expats here and many English voluntary organisations, but nothing yet for respiratory problems. Mainly cancer support. It's odd really.
Hardly ever seen anyone out and about using oxygen ... which is strange when I take into account how quick the Spanish health service were to supply me with both a static and a portable oxygen machine. Fantastic service.
It's beginning to cool down a bit now. Thank goodness!

Wow MichelleT51 that's excellent service , probably far quicker than here in the UK. It takes an age just to go through the procedure to finally see a Lung Consultant ! Good for the Spanish H/Auth. Tonight is one of the most humid nights for September and that's a struggle,so well done you for coping with your 40°'s today. Its not the temperature that upsets me so much, its the humidity. I think the forecast is hot weather for Spain and hopefully a few days of warm for the UK.
Ah! the grass is always greener as they say. Personally I would have the sunshine everyday, even the heat. I hate the winters when you have to wrap up and tread carefully for fear of sliding onto your butt whilst avoiding the snowflakes, the frost and the car fumes. Good wishes to you Michelle and send me your unwanted sunshine.
I'm on holiday in the south of France, near Narbonne, and it was 39 degrees here today, way too hot for me!
