Donation withheld!

I got paid today and decided to make a donation to the BLF for IPF Week.

All went well until I found it was mandatory to supply my home and email address, presumably so that in the future, I could be inundated with junk mail asking me to give.

I recently changed my email address to stem the flood of unwanted stuff I was receiving. So I kept my money in my pocket.

Surely it would be fairer if charities made it an option to supply contact information?

I agree with you, it should be as easy and unobtrsive as possible.

There are other ways to donate money. Cheque or text.

No need to change your email, just click on the "unsubscribe" button at the bottom. IPF week is such a good cause. All charities have to chase after money nowadays, government funding having been cut to the bone.

That's more like it! Thanks.

Most ask for email not to send spam but to send receipt SO if you have paid by card you know what when's been charged AND to stop fraudsters.

Don't mind giving email address, as you can always unsubscribe from site, but won't give home address as difficult to stop donation requests via post

I sent a donation to BLF, can't now remember how I did it but I was not inundated with post asking for more.

I have to agree with you regarding the flood of e mails and letters in the post regarding charitable donations. I agreed some years ago to help a charity with a door to door collection, I was inundated later by other charities asking for my help. it would seem they do pass your details onto other charities.

We too have been inundated. I donated to Macmillan. I think they sold my info on because I have been absolutely bombarded with stuff, varying from guide dogs to British Legion to donkey sanctuaries and water aid. I had at least ten requests from people I have never had any dealings with. Never again! (And don't get me started on the books of raffle tickets!) I wish I'd been more cautious.

Hi Terrymc

Thank you so much for considering a donation to the BLF. We completely understand your concerns regarding supplying your personal information and we are happy to take your lead on how often you want to hear from us. Our website asks for your email and address details so that we can acknowledge and thank your kind gifts, potentially claim Gift Aid on your donations and also keep you informed about the work you are funding. We’ll never share your address details with anyone else, and you can unsubscribe from our emails at any time.

Alternatively if you would prefer not to receive communications from us, you can easily let us know at any time by emailing donations@blf.org.uk, calling us on 03000 030 555 or writing to us at 73-75 Goswell Road, London, EC1V 7ER.

I hope this gives you the reassurance you are after and thank you once again for considering supporting the BLF.

Best wishes

BLF Team
