Hi Jays24! I cook with Turmeric all the time, I've never taken it as a supplement. Which health benefits are you going for, if you don't mind me asking?
Go to an indain shop and ask them for the dark yellow one as it is the only one i will us and i have cooked with it for many years
Make sure it has Berberine or piperine in it. That's the active ingredient in black pepper. Turmeric doesn't absorb well without black pepper.
Berberine (piperine) makes turmeric absorb 2,000 times more.

Hi, I have used ordinary supermarket turmeric since reading about its benefits from this forum. I have non specific interstitial pneumonitis and did have haemoptisis, coughing up blood for about a year. This has now ceased....whether due to turmeric or not I do not know, but will certainly continue to use it! Good luck.
I get my turmeric loose from a shop in london N16, Food for All. It sells all kinds of organic herbs and spices, not too expensive. Many sites that recommend turmeric are also currently warning against it often being polluted by lead, which is why i buy organic. I get my black pepper there too.
Many thanks to all the kind people who responded to my query regarding turmeric. Regards
I use East End, which I buy from my local Asian supermarket and has been confirmed to have a Curcumin level of between 3-5%. Not all Turmerics are equal, as some have had the Curcumin removed and fillers added, though it would be impossible to tell just by looking at it. I would advise you join the 'Turmeric User Group' on Facebook, which has over 60,000 members worldwide including many Brit's who will advise you which turmeric and you can ask that question. It was set up by Aussie vet Doug English and has loads of info, files etc. Or you can go to his website turmericlife.com.au. There's loads of info on there for both animals and humans
