I have heard about this before Wess. Apparently curcumin, a substance in turmeric, is what helps. Worth a try. :)

One of the ways i keep weight on - actually put on 3 lbs :) - is to have cake each afternoon with a kind of custard flavoured with turmeric and bay leaves and vanilla essence. Its very yummy and the turmeric is organic bought from a whole food shop in stoke newington in london where i used to live. I credit it with keeping some of the worst symptoms of inflammation away.

Hi Trees ...yes it seems to have some good properties for our conditions ... ...cake sounds delicious Trees ...xx

It's the sauce which has the turmeric in it, see below answering junespoon :)

Will get some turmeric when I go out,,Is the cake easy to make,I have a cake most afternoon but never helps to put the weight on,even though most days its fresh cream.?x

O2Trees in reply tojunespoon

Hi junespoon - the cake is a polenta one, various varieties which our local community cafe sells. I try to eat as little wheat and dairy as possible as it makes so much throat mucus i can't sometimes breathe.

The sauce i put on it is what contains the turmeric and i forgot to say before CARDAMON which I've also read is good for lungs.

I put a glass of milk substitute (Koko made from coconuts) with a semi-heaped spoon of rice flour to thicken, a bay leaf, few cardamon pods and some vanilla essence in a pan and heat and simmer til it thickens a bit. Then i chop a banana into it, cook a bit more, then add the turmeric at the end, about quarter of teaspoon. The yellow makes it look like custard :) and it smells scented, bit like an Asian dessert.

If you get into this as a regular thing, best to get organic. The shop i get spices from does mail order and is amazingly cheap. I'll post this and check for the link to the shop - it's called Food for All, in Cazenove Road, london N16.

Hi jettace and junespoon, here is the link:

foodforall.co.uk

Ive not been on the site before and you have to log in to see their products which seems bizarre to me. But Ive been there many times and they are helpful and knowledgeable.

I hope I'm right saying they do mail order, pretty sure.

Ive found other herbs and spices so expensive and this is v reasonable.

However, do be careful not to get it on you clothes as the yellow stain is a devil to get out !

I have been diagnosed with mild COPD and take Advair daily. Recently I came down with what my doc calls an upper respiratory viral infection (aka a cold), for which I am to rest, take fluids, etc. The coughing is scaring me, though. I wonder how to differentiate a cold from a COPD exacerbation. Meanwhile, a friend brought me a drink yesterday. It contained orange, carrot, lemon, and turmeric; it tasted nasty, but I drank most of it anyway. I then had the best 5-hour nap, COUGH FREE. I attribute this to turmeric, and am now researching the best way to get it into my body on a regular basis.

I have beeb using a mixture of onions, ginger root and tumeric sweetened with a little pure honey. Boil them together until oninonca clear. Let it cool in the refrigerator in an airtight container. I take 2 tablespoons daily. Doing this for a month now. I definitely have noticed a lot less mucous.

How much water and tumeric do you use?

Hello Jacopdhelp, and welcome to the forum. You have replied to a year old comment and therefore might not receive any response.

If you don't, I suggest you post a new message with your query about turmeric which will then be seen by all our current members, who I am sure will offer support and advice as they have above.

Nice in cooking but heard you have to have it in large amounts to have any real benefit. (Large doses should be avoided for people on blood thinners )I.e. aspirin as it’s a natural blood thinner.
