If you google it there are some interesting studies, not as a cure, but a decrease in death rate. But one study showed it did not come into effect until the patient had been taking statins for a minimum of 2 years.

I have been taking statins slightly longer than being diagnosed with copd back in 2007. Since then i only have gone down with a chest infection every two or three years. Only been to a&e once aused by the use of steroids. Last year i read a study from norway alleging people taking statins have less lung infections than other people who dont. I am very sob with 25% lung function and i believe statins have reduced the number of lung infections i might have had. I hope this helps.

Interesting Mike. What stage COPD are you out of interest? - sounds like very severe?

I was told end stage with 25% lung function. However I here of people surviving on 15% lung function which gives me hope that someone will trial stem cell treatment before its too late for many of us.

Stem cell replacement is already happening in USA and India. If you do some research you'l find cliniics in Mumbai offering treatment for about £15k iall in.

They ask for your full medical records before making a decision about your suitability. Obviously needs careful investigating. There was a post on here recently which I can't find from a guy in USA who had the treatment and really benefited from it.

Thankyou for that but is well out of reach for most sufferers. Why cant the blf and NICE start trials. As usual not profitable for big drug companies

I agree. It's too much for ordinary folk to pay and yes drug companies are more interested in you being ill so they keeping you depending on  the medication.  It could be such a different world eh?

Hi Mike

I am one with a FEV1 of 15% on 1 litre of oxygen but I live alone, still cope doing basic stuff and drive.  The lung function method test is atrocious; all that huffing and puffing put so much strain on the heart and  lungs. I get completely stressed.  In the end it is just a number!  Decided not to have any more.

Look after yourself.

Hi 2malinka , I don't know how you manage living by yourself, like you do. Do you have any help? Do you have any pets? Same thing with Tam,although he's not on oxygen. You two amaze me! 🌹Ruby🌹

Hi guytane, did not read the article, however I would proceed with caution where statins are concerned as like many other drugs, they can have devastating effects on some people, even though they work well for their purpose in many patients, not sure about long term use for COPD or Asthma purpose. That's just my thoughts however.

Been taking statins for over ten years with no side effects. I have an anual kidney and liver function test and have alright so far

Glad to hear they work for you, do they help your airways if you don't mind me asking.

Not sure about that as that was never really a problem. Its in the transfer of oxygen to the blood that really is my problem with so few alveoli working. I also produce lots of mucus thst statins dont help.

Wouldn't touch statins under any circumstances. Side effects include chronic joint pain, early onset dementia, diabetes and erectile disfunction to name but a few.
