Anti-cholesterol jab twice a year could herald the end of statins amid hopes treatment will get NHS approval within 18 months

Taking statins every day to control cholesterol could soon become a thing of the past and be replaced instead by twice-yearly jabs.

Spectacular results from trials of an injectable drug called inclisiran show that it can slash 'bad' LDL cholesterol levels by more than 50 per cent after just two weeks, and that after the jab, levels stay stable for six months.

This has to good news for those that will not take Statins because of the side effects.

but there could be side effects to the jab ... and they will last upto 6 months. At least with tablets if you stop taking them it doesn't take as long for the body to get rid of them.

"A landmark study of 1,600 people over 18 months found that the injection halved the levels of “bad” cholesterol in the blood without any apparent side effects".

If it’s anything like the Shingles jab I think I’ll pass on that.

O rock on at last. I have real problems with statins, they all seem to give me cramps and then I have to come off them. I have high cholesterol inherited not due to diet or poor eating habits. I had no idea at all they were developing jabs.... lets hope the jabs don't work out more expensive than the pills.. if so after this lock down it will never happen.
