I was offered the chance to go on a trial with an arthritis organisation. If I'd accepted I would have either had a statin or a placebo so they could check up on how it affected people with RA. Read the side effects and flatly refused!! Glad I did too as my cholesterol is normal in spite of being overweight. I did read a suggestion that everyone should take them - WHY???

Profit to big pharma - corporate interest rules all, even our health. Completely agree with you re taking statins, and there's been research done into their bad effects for some time, but it tends not to be widely publicised. Maybe the tide will begin to turn now.

Is this the survey that had UK number one dailymail.co.uk/health/arti... why cant we be top for something good whats going on with this country

Easy option instead of improving lifestyle same thing about vitamins another waste of money with side effects that the salesmen want kept quiet. Take desperate patients that want something to work then rip them off with a magic pill that puts right a bad lifestyle.

I was orescribed them a few years ago as my count was 7.2 In 6 months it was down to 3,8 so they certainly worked. While I was taking them I suffered with stomach and bowel pains and muscle pains even in my heart , The doctor said yes it probably was caused by the statins I was worried that if I did have angina or other heart complains I wouldnt know. We went on a 5 day break to the lake district and I thought I would take a break from the tablets. After 2 days I felt so much better and after the 5 days deciided to stop taking them and make changes to my diet instead. I would not say that people should stop taking them if they dont have side effects this is only my experience. . Joyce

I am on Statins but my cohlesteral was great before hand. My bad was very low and my good was high. A lot of folk are given them because it keeps the arteries clearer and boost blood flow. However, I have heard idiots with high chol say that once they are on statins they can eat what they want still, as the tablet will keep them clear.

I was put on statins in the 90's and I was 3.5 Had a test a few weeks back and I am still 3.5 no one seems to be able to tell me why I was ever put on them in the first place. Except for my heart problems maybe :)
