My scan recently showed lots of white dots on my lungs, my GP said they were 'interesting' but benign.

The specialist said they often come from having chicken pox after childhood. So yes I wouldn't worry, see what the GP says.

Hi Bigdoo - yes, I was told the same thing a couple of years ago, that I had scarring on my lungs. My GP told me it was probably the result of past infections, but sent me for further investigations. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis, which I'm managing (sometimes better than others, lol!). Try not to worry - scarring can occur for lots of reasons.

Hi my mum was told that she has calciferous lungs due to her TB a few years ago. They often mention her lungs are scarred but they are not worried :)

Don't panic! It's quite common to have some scarring on the lungs. Mine came from having pneumonia over 20 years ago. It seems I had coughed and wheezed so much that I actually damaged my lungs and they tried to repair themselves but it obviously left internal scar tissue.

A few years later I had an x-ray whilst in hospital with a particularly bad chest infection and the junior doctors went into panic mode, giving me warfarin and telling me I had blood clots on my lungs... Of course, I knew what it was but they wouldn't listen. I had to go have a CT scan to double check, and as always seems to happen it was a weekend so I had to wait until Monday before they could do that.

When the consultant got the results he want ape with the junior doctors and asked why they had not listened to the patient.

Let your GP have a look and explain it better.

I didn't leave, I just stopped posting... I pop by now and again to have a read and a couple of topics this weekend caught my eye... ;-)

Thanks for all your responses I now take comfort in knowing other people have the same x

Yes and I believe most that have COPD do have scarring on the lungs from infections, abuse by what we have inhaled etc. That scarring can get bad enough so the lungs do not function as they should, hence the COPD and other lung conditions.

Don't freak out...just start NOW to better protect your lungs. You don't know what you have in store until you get a lung condition and it is hard to breathe!
