I have been asthmatic all my life I now have COPD. Recently my peak flows have dropped after a virus infection. Second week on steroids and antibiotics peak flows improving but want them to increase by a 100. Does anyone have any ideas of how to achieve this please. I am 65 years of age

The peak flow numbers are not as important as how you feel. What are your symptoms? Is it that that you want improve? Do you have good breathing techniques and can you exercise gently? These should help. Do you have a respiratory nurse? He/she should be able to help with getting access to help with this.
Give it all time. Your body will get itself better in its own time.
I feel ok tired but very sob most of the times. I feel so panicked stricken not being able to breath as well as I would like. I need to find who they are only just moved to this area. Would you say 2 weeks is not long and it should improve just felt such a long time. So good to have someone to chat to. Thank you
Dear Anniecindy, I do not get infectious exacerbations in the way that most of those on this forum do. But from what I have picked from reading posts is that it can take longer than two weeks to settle. There will be plenty how can give you better advice.
You do need to get help from GP and the local respiratory team.
If it doesn't improve I would go back to your GP sometimes our body's become resistant to the antibiotic. It has happened to me a few times. Hand in a sputum sample to get tested take care
Just done that is 3 weeks not unusual to be taking steroids
thanks
sue
Hi sue everyone is different mine would clear up after 2 weeks on abs and steroids for the past year I have been on abs and steroids nearly every month nothing seems to clear it but the sputum test will tell them what abs to use and if you have a bug as well I think mine is something to do with psoriatic arthritis that I have recently been diagnosed with take care and I hope yours clears up soon.
