COPD and lung cancer

Have just been diagnosed with COPD (I'm 64) and one of my first questions is does having COPD increase the chances of getting lung cancer? And, if it does , has anyone had advice on how to minimise this? Would be so grateful for a rply. Thanks.

Hi, I also have COPD and the short answer to your question is no, there is no increase in the chances of getting lung cancer.

That's not what I have heard Toci. My friend who had copd was diagnosed after a year or so with lung cancer and was told the opposite by his consultant. One of the early signs was thick bendy nails on his fingers and toes. x

I too have copd and was told by my respiratory consultant that you do become high risk of developing lung cancer.

There must be a higher risk of developing lung cancer if we have smoked most of our lives! However I don't do fear! Fear makes us impotent ( NO not like that! ) but it stops us from thinking in postive ways....

So don't be fearful, do all you can to manage your COPD, keep fit, eat healthily, take your meds, educate yourself about COPD, ask about Pulmonary Rehab...and live your life every day.

Wahoooo, life is for living!
