Hi Sonia & ruby, I have been having the flu jab for around 10 years now. I've booked mine for 10th of this month. Like to get it done asap as one year I left it until December and I had a really bad chest infection that ruined xmas. Have never had any side effects. Enjoy your weekend too. š
Hi Ruby - this makes a change, it raining there It's been lovely and sunny here and has been for about a week. I am getting my flu jab a week tomorrow. The pneumonia jab should last for ever but some people (due to their health problems) should get it every 10 years. That's what we are told here anyway. x
I'm still getting over uti. Guess I should wait. One year I got the flu jab, when I wasn't feeling well. I got really sick. You ever get side effects? I see they have one available for 3 viruses, and one for 4. Something new . Hope all is well with you.š
Rubyxx š
I had my flu jag on Wednesday was having a blood test so the nurse gave me the flu jag as well
Had mine last Saturday. GP likes to get them done early before risk of contracting flu sets in. Had mild flu like symptoms which lasted for 48 hours but better than getting flu! Had pneumonia jab 3 years ago and was told it provided lifelong protection. Still ended up in hospital with pneumonia in July!
Sorry - didn't mean to give impression that I thought the pneumonia jab not worthwhile, merely that nothing provides 100% protection against either flu or pneumonia. Better to have some protection than none!
Yes I think I had symptoms too. Cough and blocked nose. Hard to tell if it was me or the jab but they cleared up within 48 hours so think it was the jab.
Morning ruby, I was feeling better š but seem to have slipped back down againš„š„ but I'm getting there and thank u for asking. Weather by me is cold and nippy with fog in the morning, clears to beautiful sunny sky's then temp drops again and cold on the night, I've not even been called in by my doc yet for flu jab, might give it a miss for a couple of weeks, feel crappy as it is. ( bloody antibiotics have given me thrush aswel so not a happy bunny at the mo )
Can't win, no how. If it isn't one thing, it's something else! You definitely need to wait for flu jab. Don't want to get it when your sick. Hows your daughter feeling? Putting a photo of a horse for her. Its nasty here. Like 45 degrees! Raining and cold.
Had my flu jab Tuesday no problems .sun shining on isle of Wight at the moment,we have had a lovely week of sunshine that's because I put all my summer clothes away last week ,I won't be fooled I'm not getting them out again take care everyone have a good weekend
Got mine booked for next Saturday, first appointments of the day for myself and hubby, so hopefully won't get coughed and sneezed on in the waiting room.
Had my flu jab on Thursday , I have flu like symptoms today but not nearly as bad as if it was flu, I recommend you have it a.s.a.p. Hope you have a good weekend we don't have rain here but it looks miserable very dull.
Since so many people here on site were discussing the 'flu' jab, I asked our doc. here in France, and he said that you have the jab earlier in northern Europe. We have ours in late November to protect us in Jan/Feb. (Unless we planned a visit to UK before then.)
I am going for mine this morning...I hope my new cute schoolboy GP is there, after all it is the weekend so he won't be at school.
I have my flu jab every year and always get a swollen sore arm for a couple of days afterwards....But it is far better than getting the Flu.....Make sure you get yours ASAP.
Weather in my parts is OK for the time of year...I think we are in for some sunshine later...Fingers crossed.
Hope you get your school boy! He sounds charming. Don't you be running off with him! your young at heart.š You driving your new car yet? I'll be getting my flu jab in the next wk. ---hopefully. Enjoy your day Velvet.
I'm having mine this morning Ruby. It's always about this time of the year (October) and I've never had any side effects from it ....other than a slightly sore arm. I had the pneumonia jab in 1998 and was told it's "for life." Good luck. XX
I was originally also told that Sue, but when I asked about the next in 2008, I was told that's what they had thought in the first place but after the preliminary tests it had been found that you only ever need 1.
Lovely morning hear in the country side no acloud in the sky yes I go for my flu jab next week and that will be it for another year it takes about two weeks to kick in then should be it never had any problems yet maybe sore shoulder for few days
Get your flu jab as soon as its available. Ive been been getting mine for 4 years now with no side effects š.
As for the pneumonia jab, l got that last year, and l was told at the time that it would last for 20 years. Im wondering why we're being told different lengths of time by our doctors....?
Ahh, l suppose that makes sense, cause l only got mine last year and it must be improved. No doubt by next year it will be further improved and will be a lifetime jab.
Hello Ruby777, the cat and budgy look really friendly, are they watching the raindrops ? Flu jabs are available everywhere now I would get it done as soon as before winter sets in. Had mine on 26th just a little muscle ache after for a few days. Some pneumonia jabs last much longer than five years by the way. In the Midlands the weather is good no rain forecast till next week, but early morning fog warnings. So take care not good for chest problems. Have a nice weekend. I'm off to play skittles today with fish & chips lunch back around six, then rest on Sunday. xx
Late reply about the fish and chips, they were not as good as usually but much needed by the time we arrived at the venue. The afternoon was pleasant but the heating broke down, the bus was late, about five did not turn up then on the way back a local bus crashed in the town center with fatalities one being a young boy, so all in all a very upsetting day. But we made the best of it and my table lost at skittles. When I got home a message to say my elderly mother has had Noro virus she is still quite frail from it. Sadly there are some things you can't just brush off with a smile, sad end to a long busy week. But today is the start of a new week. Hope you had a good weekend x
Hi Ruby, I had my flu jab last Monday, I happened to be at surgery for another problem and doc said "I might as well give you the flu jab" and she did. I felt a bit fluey (not a word I know, haha!) that evening and actually forgot I'd has the jab when I headed to bed at 8.30 feeling a bit poorly. Once in bed I remembered I'd had it and next morning I was back to my usual self!
I think it's best to have jab as soon as possible and to avoid anybody that coughs or sneezes near you. Good luck with that one! Joy xx. I'm near to London by the way, how do we know from this website where everybody is?
They have a map somewhere, showing where some members are. I'm not on it. I'm in usa. So from what I understand, it takes 2 wks. to be effective. Have a good weekend Joy.
I was a Guinea Pig for the very first flu jab many years ago when I worked for the company that made it. Never had a reaction or even a sniffle for years after. Since my health failed I have had one every year, my recent one was a week ago. I also had the Pneumo vaccine about 8 years ago. That is supposed to last for 10 years. But again, like the Flu, there are many types. However, getting all the protection that is available, is a sensible idea, as if you have a health problem flu can be extremely serious. Hope this helps you decide. Get it as soon as possible as the flu is happening already in places.
You can't get flu from the flu jab as it is not a live vaccine. You may have had it in your system before the jab. Some folk feel unwell after it, but that is why they tell you to sit in the waiting room for 10 mins before leaving. I expect you know that you can't have the jab if you are allergic to eggs.
I did sit down for 10mins & im not allergic 2 eggs but omg have never bn so ill with the flu, on top of the copd thought i was dying. I will have 2 speak 2 the nurse because obviously i have 2 have the jab but so afraid of bn ill again. X
Hi Ruby, it is not bad here and Pete and I are getting our flu jabs on Monday at a chemist attached to our GP surgery. It is less like a conveyor belt system there. Must ask about Pete's pneumonia jab as he may be due another one.
I do not recommend this flu shot at all. When I had it I got far more colds, have 3 other friends who really suffer when they have the jab. One suffered cough all the winter and the other two frequent colds. So Yes lots of side effects.
I am an asthmatic and get bronchitIs but I WILL NOT HAVE THIS JAB!
Well flu is very much worse than a cold and in someone with lung problems it could kill you. The vaccine simply cannot cause colds. Up to you of course and I hope you don't regret it but I think it's rather foolish to risk your life when you clearly don't know the facts. Robin
Hallo Robin I know the facts, I am 69 years old. You do not know my facts. The fact is it can cause colds. I stopped having the vac 17 years ago after suffering bad colds that turned to bronchitus for the 3 years I had it. About 7 colds per year for those 3 years. Other friends of mine have said the same. I use a Cisca Salt pipe to avoid colds.
How can you provide evidence, I just found that the years I had the jab I had many more colds that lasted far longer and I needed antibiotics. That for me is evidence.
Hello Scatlover, that doesn't make it a "fact" that the jab causes colds though, which is what you said. You may have had a lot of colds, but the flu vaccine didn't cause them. You can have a slight reaction to it ie slight fever, achy muscles, lasting up to 48hrs, but that's all. Whereas flU could easily put you in hospital or god forbid worse. Robin
So why did I have so many colds the years I had a jab. Husband of a friend, very healthy never got colds or coughs had the jab, he then caught a cold and a cough that continued all that winter. There are a lot of people that get results like mine, if you think I alone know 4, just remembered another man who is refusing his jab after bad colds. My body reacts badly to the vaccine, you are lucky that you do not. We are not all equal. Lets end this discussion it is pointless, I know my facts you do not agree. Bye Bye.
Interesting that you have so many side effects. No one else seems to have any. Think you have an allergy to something in it? Do you have a reaction right after getting it ? Maybe 5 yrs. ago, I got the flu jab, and started wheezing before I even got home. Dr. Said I must have already been getting sick. It was from the jab for sure. For me to start wheezing 15 mins after I got it. Since then, no problems.
Maybe you should give it another try. I'm fine with it now.
I see by your name, your a cat lover. How many fur babies do you have?
Just had both my flu and pneumonia jabs this morning. Have to say the arm which I had my flu jab in is absolutely agony. No problem with the pneumonia jab, as yet! My doctor has told me the pneumonia jab is a once in a life time shot.
If it is your first jab for flu then be prepared for more colds or cough that lingers for months. That is my experience of flu jab. Yes I know the facts. Yes I used to have the jab and suffered for it as do three other friends who now refuse to have it.
Hi Ruby, had mine last week, didn't even feel it going in and very little soreness in the days after, bit of a runny nose but fine, well worth it not to get full blown flu!š
Hope you are feeling better now after the infection.š huff xxxx
Believe it or not, didn't take ABS yet. I'm stubborn about taking pills. Guess I'll have to break down and take them. Want to get the flu jab. Not when I'm not feeling right. Hows Max doing Huff?
oh Ruby I'm just the same I don't have them often and usually it's the ear infections I have to have them for ! Max says Hi and he is a treasure he is big and good thank you, hope you get sorted out soon ,hugs huff xxx
Glad you like the photo. I'm surprised you don't get the flu jab. With your lung function, I would think the Dr. would tell you, it's pretty important. Have they not said this to you?
No.GP advised. Still wouldn't have it. One of my brother's had two of these flu jabs, two years running and had terrible flu both times. I don't have such faith in the medical profession and as at 65, I have never had flu',( touch wood.) I am not prepared to take the risk
What a fantastic picture of the cat and bird, it has been overcast all day but not cold.
I went for my flu jab today I'm told the vaccine is grown in eggs and anyone with allergy to eggs should not have it so I hope all who have had it are well and continue to be free from flu
I had mine last Monday the earlier you get it once they start giving it the better I am told. People like us should get the first appointments for them at the surgery. I thought the pneumonia jab was a once in a lifetime thing?
It is raining in sunny southern California today too! I love it!
I got my flu shot and no known side effects and there is a series to the pneumonia shots according to Kaiser Permanente. I got one shot last year, A different strain for pneumonia this year and then I guess next year I get one more. I think that completes the series and after that who knows.
Great song! Bet it was a beautiful summer there. I envy you. I hate n.j. weather sucks! After I deal with my uti, I'm getting my flu shot. Now I'm get calf muscle cramps when I'm sleeping! Always something to deal with.
Sounds like a new thing with the pneumonia shot. Thought it was just one. Hope your doing well.šš.xx
I remember that song...haha....yeah it did change . I think it took some time for them to figure out what works. I sure hope the shots protect us all this year. Nobody wants to be sick.
Sorry your having leg cramps. Do you know the cause of them?
