end of life .

well after picking up my fathers palliative care box today i felt like i had been given a loaded gun. I know bits of my thinking this isnt right then i look at my father and say to my self it wont be used for a while i hope however, We all know copd is a very nasty and fast developing seeing someone you love struggle for breath is awful but keeping calm and following the care plan can allow time to try and get the situation under control. My one big concern is when my father is admitted to hospital the way they treat patients and also the fact they seam to have so little i understand the fact they have other patients but for god sake slow the pace down, and the amount of time medication is messed with is also a beef due to drug intolerances and the fact the care in a hospital is only given by nurses at the weekend. Drs should be there 7 days a week to patients so there care is on going.

must be a hard thing to have to watch and deal with people don't always think how it affects the careers , im sure you are a great comfort to dad knowing you are there for him , It is hard with the hospital situation but afraid the staff have it tough with the cut backs their work loads get bigger with less staff to cover the work meaning less time spent with patients and feel that unless Cameron inject a lot of cash quickly (and not with his favourite saying of over the next 5 years we are going to put this much into this ) things will soon be a lot worse , hope you dad keeps well for a lot lot longer. take care

The hospital situation could be relieved a bit by diverting the money that the House of Lords costs. £300 a day just for attending, subsidised restaurants and bars ! We may need a second chamber but not over 800 ! I`m sure one baroness didn`t get lauded for the bra she designed but for the donation she made. Yes you can buy just about anything these days. Grrrr ! It is hard and sad for you to see your poor dad struggling but at least you are there for him and can help keep him calm. I do feel for you as I watch Pete struggle too sometimes but he is not doing too badly. The hospital staff do their very best but they are up against it. You can only try and be with your dad as much as possible and he will be comforted knowing you are there. Bless you both. xxx

I agree with you not enough care,it's because you can't see it,so many people these days are very shallow ,and all the cuts its just not ok it is abuse and negligence!! This country has the highest death rate more than double than other country's ,in respiratory , They should be ashamed!,!!!So what use is NHS if it is so awful !?

The NHS is a brilliant service colours when used properly. The trouble with this country is that they let anyone and everyone use it whether they're entitled to - or not! This was set up for the people of this country who pay for it all their working lives and not for just anyone who sees fit to come here for free treatment, then go back to where they came from. Of course it's struggling, how can it not when the amount of money going in is outweighed by the thousands who use it without having paid a penny.

Nikkers, Steve needs our support dont you think not the usual anti-immigrant rant. Robin

found out today metformin one of the deabetic meds causes heart problems in men and not women. I managed to get dad to see a cardiologist and he has now put my father on heart tablets and i hope that due to the long term use of metformin it doesnt have lasting effects

in reply to stevewebb

I don't know anything about metformin steve but I hope so too. Glad you got your dad to the cardiologist. Robin

Very well said if more people had the guts to speak up it might help.I'm really scared for everyone who has payed into our health care system we are being taken over and we will be the minority soon rant over sorry if I've upset anybody I'm having a bad day x

Youre both entitled to these views of course I just think maybe steves sad post isnt the place. Why not start a new thread. Robin

I'm with you all the way Marian. I fear for my grandchildren and their children . You have a right to speak up in your own country without fear of reprisal - and guess what? You're allowed to say it in English! Now how novel is that becoming? I rest my case.

Its so hard and you must be struggling with so many emotions. Can you ask for a chat with your dads consultant or registrar, together with the ward sister/charge nurse too, and tell them your concerns about this moving too fast. If necessary at dads bedside. Its so important for you to have confidence in those looking after him. Robin

on thing that strikes me about this chat room your own veiws seam to be more important than what i and other members are going through. Yes Robin i do need support and if this was a political page i could understand the rants however much i feel alone idealistic notions on unfounded ideas mean nothing. Im actually trying to save my Fathers life not change the world and i dont think this is the type of site we can change things on. However im a fighter and i wont give in on my father and i know this is very harsh but my father has brought his home and he has the right to live and die in it as its his castle and im going to make dam sure he gets his wish and as for hospice is it really a place to die i question all motives when it comes to care that is provided. since my father has been home his health has improved i can monitor his drinking and make sure he has his medication. he will recover and i have started him on no medical treatment like carrot juice as vitamin A helps with lungs. if i listened to all what ive been told i think i would have given up however im fighting and my father is to so good on my Dad my hero

in reply to stevewebb

Well said steve and I completely understand how you feel. There may be a place for debates/rants but your post about your dad isn't the right place. I hope your dad can stay at home. Robin
