Has anyone got a good travel insurance we would like to go away next year to Lanzarote but so far insurance won't cove me one quoted £750 for me and my husband for two weeks we are both over 70 x

It s unlikely that any other Company will offer you a significantly lower Premium.

i had a good quote this year from insureandgo.com, with plenty of health conditions to declare, but I am not yet 70. I did find that the comparison site moneysupermarket.com do let you search and compare with medical conditions.

I also went with stay sure and had a good price.

I have Brhonchiecties Multiple Scelerosis, high BP, Severe back pain ++ but had a quote for about £90 for two.

I did it online, health questionnaire easy to complete.

Not sure if it was my age as most people are saying.

Between us we have found it better to use Lloyds Bank Insurance - I know we have to have a particular account to get it and had to lose some savings to keep the account up. I think at present it costs under £150 for the two of us - partner has back and neck problems amongst other things and is over 70 and I have asthma, bronchiectasis and other things. Am waiting to hit them with the aspergillosis /aspergilloma diagnosis when it is official - normally this just means we get asked to pay, on average another £20. That is year long travel insurance and we are covered in the US - as we go there to visit grandchildren, and covered for skiing. Don't know if this is still available though we got it many years ago and I don't even think we are keeping up with the qualifying account now. My cousin managed to get travel insurance for her Mum who is 87 from Post Office Insurance and said it was the best she could get and was reasonable.

Thanks freefaller we are in Barclays I've been in to see them and it's only up to age of 70 at the moment they are changing it to 80 in September you have to pay £8.50 per month that includes over things like RAC ect, I've got to wait till then to get a quota but I think I may have a go at Staysure thanks for your help and yes it is nice to look forward to a holiday the last holiday we had was 2 years ago to Turkey our 50th wedding anniversary and didn't have any trouble with insurance then xx

I used allclear two weeks ago for me and my wife it cost 211 pounds for 11days in Alicante I am only 65 and on oxygen that's was the cheapest I could find on the Internet I will use them again hopefully if still around

I have IPF and use oxygen,I am 65 hubby is 74 and diabetic,we got cover with Worldwideinsure,we have 12 months cover worldwide for up to 45 days with no excess,this question comes up regularly,it's time the BLF published a list of who us members have got covered with,and our health conditions,we Pay £578 for the year.Sooki.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis,real shitty disease,3 to 5 years life expectancy,waiting to hear from Newcastle if they will appraise me for transplant,turned down by Papworth,I also have a second rare disease mega oesphagus ,which may prevent transplant.I have emailed health unlocked to see if they will dedicate a page to Travel insurance with costs and those companies who will cover us for a reasonable cost.We had the excess removed so the actual cost can be cheaper,they were really helpful,it's always better to phone than do it on the internet.Good Luck.😊

Thanks Sooki I've not heard of that disease and I hope you have news soon from Newcastle I would say COPD is also a shitty disease but since I changed my inhaler touch wood I'm a lot better I was on Seretide 500 and all I kept having was infection now on Symbicort 200/6 I'm feeling loads better and touch wood no infections and not out of breath I will let you know who we choose for the holiday I will email you take care and thanks 💐💐 xxxx

Been reading this with great interest.

Let me tell you my experience of just a few weeks ago. These last few years my husband and I have only travelled as far as Eire, but because it is Southern Ireland and not covered by the NHS thought it best to get cover.

After reading online about there being a reciprocal agreement between Eire and England I checked with my Hospital Consultant about health cover and was told I don't need it for there. We went on holiday this year with no holiday cover and I was totally fine.

Upon our return my husband wanted to check on a site he had been told was the very best for anyone with a medical condition (Medical Cover Compare).

I entered all my details: Emphysema, Oxygen 24/7, Three inhalers, Right Ventricular Failure, Angina, one hospital admission in last 12 months. Cost of cover? £1,246.00!!!

This was the cheapest.

I just couldn't believe it and can't wait to let my Consultant know of this cost.

Is that true Tyneandwear, we don't need insurance for southern Ireland, Im away to Galway Bay for 5 days next year for a wedding?

This is what I was told and also read in an article called Health Services for Visitors to Ireland. If you enter this in your search engine the full page should show. You do need to take your EHIC Card with you and possibly evidence of UK residency.

It actually states you are entitled to free emergency health services.

Have a lovely time in Galway Bay - a beautiful place.

thank you, thats very helpful. Ive never been away from the uk, never needed a passport, and at 60 this is all new to me. Add to the fact Ive just recently been told I have copd, so everything is beyond me. xx

Jude, I hope you do manage to find the site and read up about Ireland Healthcare. I am sure you will find it very useful.

It sounds as if you are flying over to Ireland because if you go via Ferry (which we do) you don't require a passport.

Are you using Oxygen yet? It is really easy to get it sorted for Ireland. I have never had any problem.

Oh thats good news Therese, Im going via ferry, I don't want to fly first, Id like to take in a bit of scenery. Plus I do get low oxygen levels and until I know whats what with my own copd, thought ferry would be best. Need to take a wheelchair too see.. Not on Oxygen yet, and my stats have risen recently and kinda stay put at 95/94, where when first dx were 91/92.

Just another thought Jjude. When you book your Ferry state you require assistance. This means your car will be set very close to the lift which makes it so much easier to get from the car deck up into the Ferry proper.

Your Oxygen levels sound great to me - mine drop into the low 70's at times even on 5litres of Oxygen. My resting level is usually about 92.

UK residents may not need insurance for to get emergency treatment in Ireland, or indeed any other European country ( you will need your EHIC card) but if you have to be flown home with medical attendance ( or in a casket, god forbid) you think the NHS will cover it?

Or if you have to cancel your holiday 'cos your sick?

Or you lose your belongings?

And for those that think they get cover with a bundled bank account - standard bundled travel insurance will NOT cover you for pre existing/ undeclared medical conditions.
