hi superdanno,
Best ask for a sleep test, but our oxygen levels do drop at night.
maybe ask for a referral to chest doc, or ask resp. nurse,
only a consultant can prescribe oxygen
hope that helps

I am surprised you don't need oxygen 24/7 with those levels. The danger is damage to vital organs due to being starved of oxygen. I would suggest going back to your doctor asap
I would have thought definitely "yes" - 84 is too low and dangerous.
Winebuff has given you the answer to your second question. If you have been informed of your night sats, does that mean that a respiratory practitioner told you? In which case Id be surprised they didn't explain more about it.
I had similar numbers years ago and was put on a regimen of 3 litres O2 for 14 hours/day. Pure convenience made it easier to use the tubing and cannula in the evenings and whilst sleeping. Please ask your GP to arrange a referral to a pulmonary expert as soon as you can. If you get the same prescribed regimen, it's really not so bad.
Take care
