Sometimes People Are So Awfully Bad...

Have you read the news about that total ignoramus who shot a Lion with a crossbow?

An American Dentist who paid vast amounts of money to shoot Cecil the male lion...with a cross-bow.

The lion was the subject of an on-going research project by a group from Oxford University...he was wearing a tracking collar ...and lived in a so-called sanctuary.

Apparently big cats are lured out of such sanctuaries by unscrupulous people to be shot by 'big game hunters'...huge amounts of cash exchange hands.

When I'm researching family trees and have a look at the kinds of life those people would have led, I'm always struggling slightly with the concept of spending the afternoon watching Bear baiting or Dog fighting...bad enough that rings of Dog fighting are still alive and well...Cock fighting is said to be common-place in rural areas of Ireland...

Go back to the 1700's and maybe people who cheered on the dogs engaged in biting toothless bears were simply ignorant of the morals involved...is that so now...when someone with more money than sense and the morals of a slug think that shooting a lion with a cross-bow is excellent sport...

Photographs went viral not so long ago of a young woman who shot a Giraffe...it was the way she was caught by camera posing beside the dead animal which caught public attention...there with a big grin on her face...she said the Giraffe fed a village...I rather suspect she was lying in her teeth.

I can understand the pure rage in killing another human...someone who is responsible for murdering or raping your daughter for instance...that moment when all you can think of is instant revenge...maybe that is within all, or most of us.

But to drive out into the African bush...travelling in a high powered Jeep...with a driver and an armed escort...to take aim at an animal which hasn't even bothered to hide, so used he is to humans...?

Fish in barrels springs to mind.

There were no extenuating circumstances...Cecil hadn't eaten this blokes wife last week...it wasn't a revenge killing or the putting down of a lion suffering from a terminal disease...

Another case I read of today was some druggie who killed his little dog because he couldn't afford the vets bill to have him put to sleep...he went up before the judge who has said there is no reason to ban him from keeping animals...? because he has the care of a child...and the child should have a pet...

So, you have a drug addict in sole care of a child...who killed his dog...in a public park...sentenced to 200 hours of community service. And he can keep another dog because otherwise it'll be depriving the child of a pet...

You couldn't make it up...the world is completely mad.

To make things worse in news this morning the expert mentioned the new lion to take over the pride will kill his cubs (6) in order to get lioness to mate with him. THAT is nature but the senseless killing of lion will result in 7 deaths.

The first reports I heard and read said that Cecil was a loner, without a pride, because he'd originally been ousted by a younger, stronger, up and coming lion who'd taken over his pride. That, as a loner, made him the subject of study and led to his becoming a tourist attraction, as the potential danger to them was reduced when the lion didn't have a pride it felt it had to defend.

There was an item in the Daily Mail last week, with graphic photos of a mass slaughter of whales. So much so, the sea turned red with the blood of the whales. WHERE is the sense and compassion.

I agree this is all awful. Yet people eat chickens which are 'intensively farmed' who lead cruel unnatural lives, calves who spend their whole lives in a pen unable to turn around, eggs from battery farmed chickens who cannot run around and play.... We pretend they don't suffer as they are stuffed like sardines in vans being taken to the slaughterhouse... Are we much better?

I was vegetarian for many years until I got Diabetes. It was impossible to get enough protein. I only have a small amount of meat in a week, only free range and organic.

Battery hens suffer so much. My Uncle kept them which appalled me.

Cheese and soya make me ill, so do pulses, so that doesn't leave much room for manoeuvre. Can't eat pastry either. Anything more than a very small amount of meat makes me ill. What I do, is get a steak or a chop on meat days, twice a week and give ⅔ of it to George.

I too was horrified to hear about poor Cecil, it was an outrage. I hope the a*sehole is prosecuted and slung into a nasty rat infested jail. The w*nker has also shot a rhino and a leopard, there were photos of his ugly mug grinning from ear to ear.

Something that really horrified m was the enormous number of beautiful wild creatures shot for fun. I read about a shoot the Queen Mother went on when she was Duchess of York with her husband and David, later King Edward VIII.

Apparently Edward was horrified by the scale of the slaughter and laid the foundations for Wildlife conservation.

Tens of thousands of wild animals were brought to the Colesseum by the Romans to kill Christians and amuse large audiences.

Such horrors from a so called civilised race. I despair at times. It horrified me to hear that the Far East countries use dogs to make leather. Worse, they are killed in terrible inhumane ways. It makes me ashamed of being human.

Worse part of moron who shot the lion with a hunting bow (his specialist weapon skill is as a bow hunter), the T*ser only mailed the lion. Not a clean shot. Then it took moron 9 hours to finally track and shoot the lion with a rifle.

This is like spending $50 K on driving a Ferrari on a track and hitting the king pit land wall with it.

I hope he gets thrown in a local jail. There needs to be a heavy sentence to deter other wicked hunters. Ivory Hunters should get many years in jail too. Capital punishment is too easy for them. Life is cheap in Africa, unfortunately.
