Just having a lobe of your lung out is no reason not to work on its own. I had two lower lobes out at 15 yrs old and I have worked all my life, still do now, well past retirement age. I am also at severe stage3 COPD with emphysema ...being able to go to work is more about how you feel and how much you can manage to do. I can walk about OK but I cannot walk fast or run, or climb too many stairs...but I can get around just fine & have a busy and active life . Its good to be busy for as long as you can be

Good luck with your recovery

Good luck with it. Do call the BLF helpline 0300030555 office hours 9-5 Mon-to Fri.

They have benefits advisors as well as expert lung health advice.

All the best David with you recovery. P

Disability allowance or PIP is given to help you cope. It is not means tested so you can work if you want to.

Much depends on how ill you feel. COPD affects everyone in different ways.

They may also be several reasons for a lobectomy, depending on the underlying cause.

You could try writing rather than email to the Benefits advisor.
