I've copied and pasted the web page address to put it here: bbc.co.uk/news/health-33132613 . Not sure if it will become a hyperlink though.

Thanks for the link...I just noticed that the BBC had moved the item from the main site to the Health section since I put the post up.

Thanks again

Thanks for the link.

Yes this is the one I saw.

Funny in a way but I have recently had to 'fight' with our surgery to change my daughters asthma meds.

She went for a medical for work and 3rd time on peak flow was only 53%! She is just 16 and Obvo a non smoker.

So they gave her new inhaler and almost instantly her breathing and cough were better.

Just goes to show. But I needed the employment medical to help 'prove and justify' my request.

Same problem here with UK doctors. I am pretty sure I am alive now because of an Italian hospital that upgraded my medicine requirements 4, yes 4, times and other than those 4 times nothing else has changed in 22 years. I see my Dr for 15 mins a year for a review. No point in that really because nothing is checked.

Been to hospital here (italy) 5 times and it is absolutely brilliant. No better service anywhere .

Forgot to mention my blood/oxygen is 96% but flowmeter reading is a dismal 140 yet I live on my own and look after myself.

If all the people who can't or don't use their inhalers properly weren't actually prescribed any, would we see a rise in asthma deaths?

Silly question..

It wasn't meant to be. I know a lot of people who swear blind they need their inhalers but can't actually be getting any of the stuff as I can see it coming out of their mouth. Or they go puff-puff for 2 puffs instead of shake, puff/inhale, hold, breathe out. Then repeat the whole thing for the second puff

Hi again, I do find that some inhalers have made me worse....my peak flow has gone down and my chest tighter. What works for some doesn't for others.

That's what's good about this site ....you can share experiences and gain knowledge

Interesting article thanks for the link. I had asthma for around 25 years, then I was diagnosed with copd. As soon as I was given proper preventative inhalers my asthma improved no end and my FEV1 went up from 62% to 73%. My copd nurse said it was probably poorly controlled asthma.....x
