The smell of garlic bread fresh from the oven

White bed sheets dried on a line outside

A newly filled hot water bottle on a cold winters night

The first cup of tea in the morning

Ginger kittens

A mug of hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows

Open fires

Peacock butterflies

Shiny black beetles

Plain white candles

Patchwork quilts

Seeing the first Swallow

Ladybirds

Strawberry Ice-Cream...with Strawberries

A faint whiff of Patchouli oil from someone walking by

New socks

New knickers

Glimpsing the ocean through a gap in the mountains

Finding pieces of sea glass

Opening a brand new book

Crispy, crunchy roasted potatoes

Picking blackberries

Putting the last stitch in an Afghan

Beginning a new crocheted Afghan

The smell of new-mown grass

Waiting at Knock airport for Teresa and Reuben

Going to the bluebell woods

Travelling on trains

Good company and a good chat with some sangria at a relaxed dinner party.

A perfectly made omelet (not too dry) filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese.

60's music.

The way our family can just get together and continue conversations after a gap of several years.

The smell of steam infused with hot oil (from proper steam engines, believe this works with babies and ladies!).

My version of paella.

Watching a stick in the garden for weeks of nothing happening, then seeing that the buds have cracked to reveal this years leaves.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

My wife.

The smell of bread baking, bacon cooking, toast. Hot Chocolate with cream & marshmallow. My grandsons smile & excitement when we arrive. My granddaughter giggling. All my grand children. Trips in the camper van. Looking at family photos. The list is endless and what a lovely way to count your blessings.

Vashti, one of my favourite things is also Reuben! He is one of my two grandsons and got his Doctorate in Chemistry last year. Proud or what? Just read your post, it's so uplifting to me at the moment, we are all so very glad of you, love and blessings, Polly. x x

Having no laundry to wash. The smell of Lily's Getting tidied up after planting the beds. My dog always trusting me to clip her nails. My grandson getting another certificate to get a good job when I ain't around. Watching young teenagers having a laugh Seeing my 5 great grand kids in the swimming baths. Feet up and a half hour snooze after Sunday lunch

My sailor home with me,

my home and garden,

growing flowers,

a cold beer and a fan in the summer,

a roaring fire in the winter,

reading,

painting and sketching,

Irish coffee,

beachcombing,

photo's,

shopping with my daughter,

bargains,

solar lights,

chocolates,

four legged friends,

birds,

well done crumpets and home made jam,

Roast lamb and homemade mint jelly,

music,

bed.

Hello Vashti, like blackberry picking too,the spring buds coming out, the sound of the sea, bluebell woods, snowdrops in spring, crunchy real roast potatoes, patchwork quilts, the birds singing, smells of flowers, good home cooked cakes and meals, old fashioned things that were around before computers, a lovely cosy warm home, open spaces of greenery, clean cloths and bedding, soak in a warm bath and many more as you say. Enjoy your weekend .........

My family

A nice cold glass of Sauvingnon Blanc

A freshly made bed

Being by the sea

A good book

Cut grass

A nice cup of tea & piece of cake

Motown & Northern Soul music

Candlelight

Chocolate

A nice single malt

Sitting in the sun & the smell of sun cream

The smell of clean line dried laundry

Being hugged

Sleep

Sunday roast dinner with the family

A nice hot, deep bubble bath

Being able to buy a size 12 (after being on a diet for 10 months!)

Being able to breath easy! X

A field full of buttercups dancing in the breeze, the smell of the ocean, the sound of young lambs bleating, the first shoots of Spring, cosy log fires and probably lots more. xxx
