Went to jamaica in February 1996 (seems an age away pre emphysema days!). It rained most days late in the day perhaps we were just unlucky. Temps were high 20s low 30s can't remember much about the humidity. walked up Dunns river falls which is supposed to add 10 years to your life I sure need them now 😊
We went to St kitts & Nevis, way back in April & may 1981. We were both much younger & I didn't' have copd then. The sun was very hot but if you go up from the flatter sea area, old plantations have become country club type hotels. They were built to catch the trade winds & are not so humid. Although the sun is very hot, temperatures rarely rises more than the 80's . I Don't know that I could cope with it now but we are all different& it should be great in Jan Feb. Best wishes margaret
Ive been too Barbados in January and found it ok didnt really affect me too much unlike Cyprus which made me really sob...i dont think its just the heat that affects us in Cyprus they have a fine dust that lies over everything
Hi Jeanielee - encouraging that you've been and found it ok. Do you have severe COPD? Thanks :)x
I have bronchiectasis and just had two weeks in Guadeloupe in Jan. It was brilliant. 28 degrees in the day and much cooler in the evenings. To me the humidity was relatively low and didn't bother me at all. I am thinking of going back next year.
Hi Helen, I would love to go to Guadeloupe, can you tell me if you went on a package holiday or arranged it on your own? I keep looking but can't find a full package deal. I know you have to fly from France. x
We booked it ourselves - flight with Corsaire or air france from Paris and then just stayed in different hotels around the island. Booking a gite would be much cheaper tho - it's what all the french do. I would look at Sainte Anne or Saint Francois to stay. Deshaies- where they film Death in Paradise, is lovely but extremely quiet.
We have spent time in Florida in Feb/March, My husband must have been ill then as it was only 3 years ago.
It is a lovely dry heat with low humidity, I am sure you will find it good. Unlike India and such more eastern countries where the humidity is high. x
Than you kind folks for the replies- much appreciated!
Hi sirjames
We were on a P&O Cruise 28 days to the Caribbean this time last year. Feb 13th and march returning on 15th. We visited 9 destinations. It was warm and not too humid.
The weather was not a problem. I have COPD 10 years and mild emphysema . It was the virus I caught while on the ship that has been the problem. Coliform and Moraxella Haemophilus the latter which is still with me today!!!! I am waiting for procedures to 'hoover' out my lungs to try and solve the crippling effects of this virus. I have lost over a stone in weight and become very weak. I boarded the ship able to walk steadily 4 times around the Prom deck (over a mile) and 4 weeks later I was taken off on a wheel chair!! We suspect I caught this virus from the air conditioning which affected a lot of passengers who like my wife simply got well after a few days. I have done PR and continue my exercises as bets as able and eat well. Sleep is very disturbed due to the mucus problems. It has out us off Cruises but then Airplanes have the same issues with Air Con. Best of luck if you decide to go.
Thank you for your reply Hallentine. Good to read from your experience that the heat and humidity will not be an issue for me. I read online recently about infections being caught on board ship and I will investigate thiis. I would definetley like to go to escape some of the worst weeks of the English winter.
Hard to belive you still have the infection caught on a cruise over a year ago and I hope the 'hoovering' procedure works and clears it for you.
Best wishes,
James
