Hi all.

Just a quickie...my daughter has had the cough and cold from hell these past 2 weeks.

I myself am a fellow emphysema and bronchitis sufferer.i have in the past 24 hours had the "itchy" throat, now I also have a pain in my back, upon breathing and moving,it hurts.

Do I start my rescue meds? Or wait?

Thank you.xxxx

Don't fret about it. You call your GP or respiratory nurse, assuming you can't get an appointment. Generally rescue meds are: ABs to take if sputum discoloured; pred if breathlessness worse than usual.

Not always easy to tell if infection is viral or bacterial so get advice while its not yet out of hours. Sorry to be terse, very ill myself. Good luck

Thank you o2trees.

I'm gonna see if and how it progresses before I take any meds.

I agree with O2Trees. Get well soon. xxx

any change should be kept an eye on...i have a cold but i dont have a chest infection...if your worried send in a sample but keep a close eye on the colour of your sputem and if you get more breathless than usual maybe start them

its difficult for us to spot all the signs at first but you will soon recognise them

hope you feel better soon x

Hi Fantasy, I had pains when breathing from Tuesday to Saturday then today so breathless I started to get panicky. Rung my Doctors for advise and was told I needed to be seen. Yes I have an infection, even though I'm not coughing and hardly coughing anything up. Doctor told me at the first signs of pain when breathing or change of colour of sputum or increased breathlessness above what is normal for me start rescue meds and phone for appointment. Hope you phoned Doctor as advised and hope you feel better soon.

Morning, Hope you are feeling a bit better this morning. My husband was told that if two of the following three symptoms increased he was to start the meds. immediately:

more coughing

change in colour of sputum

more breathless

In my personal opinion I have always found it better to air on the side of caution. Though last weekend my husband was so breathless and I was sure he was coming down with a chest infection but it doesnt seem to have developed any further. If my husband has pain in his back or when breathing it is usually a sign of an infection. If you can get an appointment with a doctor or ask him to ring you. Take care, TAD xxx
