Copd meds

Hi, my name is Mel and I have had copd now roughly 5 years. I currently have a salamol reliever and am on duaklir genuair inhalation powder, which usually works for me. More breathless than usual so a new doctor put me on relvar ellipta fluticasone furoate 184/22 micrograms. Had a really bad episode when walking my dogs with my partner. Could not catch my breath at all (so frightening) took reliever and sat down half way around. Touch wood better now. But read high dose of relvar not supposed to be for copd. Sat here now feeling really depressed and wondered if anyone knows anything about this drug. Any help much appreciated 😮‍💨

I was put on Relvar years ago for asthma. Now diagnosed with bronchiectasis, but still on it. It sounds as if it may not be right for COPD, certainly not for you. You need to go back to your GP.

I don’t have copd but have dealings with it and the meds used. That dose of relvar is specialist initiated only and so a referral to respiratory physician would be needed for that dose. You may be better with symbicort which can be used in place of salamol with asthma ie reliever and maintenance therapy. Until you get an appointment to review, it can help to take your salamol regularly and inveteeen if you need it.

Hi Mellywelly,

It can be scary when we can't get our breath cant it ? I have ACOS (Asthma COPD Overlap Syndrome ) and been on the high dose Relvar now for a few years. Even so from time time I have an asthma episode and keep the Salamol inhaler handy for those times.

Are you using the Salamol at all ? I also use it about 20 mins before I exercise which does help.

Wishing you well.

Pauline

Thanks for replying to me. Yes I use the salamol when needed. I think maybe I had a reaction to the meds, but I did read that high dose is not recommended for copd. Feel a lot calmer now I am back to my duaklir 👍

Thanks for your reply, everybody on this site have been do helpful. I think I must be allergic to an ingredient in the relvar ellipta and have gone back to my trusted duaklir. App in 2 weeks. 👍
