hi all, I've been on seratide 500 now for nearly five years and feel it's not working any more, my gp refuses to let me try anything else to replace it.

My question is, do you know of any other inhaler that I can try in its place.

I am on eklira genuair and seratide 500 at the moment. thanks in anticipation. Rikki.

Symbicort (formoterol/Budesonide) is an alternative to Seretide (salmeterol/fluticasone).

I was changed from Seretide to Symbicort. Unfortunately, it didn't work forme but others saw great improvements. Takes a couple of weeks for full benefit to be noticed. Hope you are given the opportunity to try something else.

The only time I've had any luck in changing inhalor is if I've got ill as it was inadequete and gone to hospital, then they change it with a letter to your doc. Surgery has one that they dish out same make. There are many ,keep looking into it ,get tested again, don't give up or you will get worse if not getting good treatment . Good luck

Good Morning Rikki, My husband uses Symbicort which he finds very good. It might be a good idea to give the BLF helpline a call and talk to the nurses they will be able to advise you what is a good alternative for you and how to approach your doctor. Good Luck xx

My husband's consultant stopped the use of seretide due to known possible problems , and changed him to sybicort. All fine.

He can't refuse...if you know anything about this disease every year we should be tested to see if it's changed,if so we up the inhalor, not all docs are happy to treat ongoing illness, the nurses to do it as they go on training days, surgery stick to the very basic.. That's why we need specialists in that field.

I would ask to be referred to a specialist, that way you'll get lung function tests and if the specialist changes you, your doc can't override him. My mom was given spiriva as well as SERATIDE after seeing a specialist and having spirometery tests.

Not what you're looking for?
