Here in France we are in the middle of a colds and chest problems epidemic according to my GP. He recommended that I take antibiotics 'just in case.' My sister says everyone is catching it in the UK as well, (and from what I read here.) I finished the antibiotics on Friday morning, and, having stayed inside away from the cold (yes it does get very cold this far south!) I am feeling a lot better. I am still graduating down my steroids. The problem now is building back some strength. I am still coughing a bit and producing translucent agate-coloured phlegm (beige) instead of onyx-coloured.(pale green) It's all yukky!
I had to watch my husband going off to a Burns Night in full highland dress, while I snuggled down with the TV to watch "Call the Midwife" I should have done that last weekend instead of going to a village get together, where every second person felt the need to come close to me to tell me to stay away from them as they were 'full of the cold!' I am guessing that is where my infection started. I used my 'dry' hand wash like a mad thing, but to no avail. The rest just came up and gave me 'bisous' ( a kiss on each cheek.)
It is possible, likely even, that I had a viral infection rather than a bacterial infection, though the change in phlegm does indicate otherwise. Now I have to hope that, when we visit the UK later in the year, (April/May) there will be fewer bugs and viruses. I will have a rescue pack with me and portable oxygen.
I wish all of you well as we try to avoid exacerbations for the rest of the winter. Love Lolly. x
