Detailed ct scan
Only scan have heard of is that detailed is one where you have barium injection think its call a pet scan
Nor its not for ya household pets but thats name dont know why i had ct scan and mmr scan lucky av never had one of them pet scans
I have had a High Resolution CT with contrast which shows up blood vessels - mine was to look for pulmonary embolism. Mine was a normal CT with something injected through a cannula in the back of my hand towards the end. It takes longer than a normal HRCT and involves a Dr aswell as a radiographer due to the contrast. Hope this helps. C x
That's what I had done when they diagnosed my empthysema. My consultant said this was more detailed so I don't really understand it.
Hi Michelle
I am only guessing here but, I remember you said you are on the transplant list ?? I think the reason they want to carry this out is to have an accurate footprint of where all the main arteries vessels and connecting tissue is, so they have everything mapped out prior to any transplant. I imagine having this done now will give the surgeon plenty of time to study this ready for when the operation takes place. Like I say its only a guess and could be completly wrong.
All the best
Justin
I can completely understand that thank you. I've been sat here worrying thinking are they looking for cancer. Thank you for your reply
Michelle12120 . In summer, I just had had an infection. My blood doctor thought my glands were a bit swollen, so asked for a CTscan. Well, it showed I had swollen glands, but doc thought it was because I just had had an infection. So in November I had another one, also just after an infection. I suppose that my lgnds (lymphatic ones, that is) have been working overtime to process all the dead white blood cells. I saw the doctor's junior, but she had no result yet. she told me that If I had cancer they would call me! My appointment is later in February. It's all silent on the Western front! And I managed another chest infection! those glands are almost permanently occupied at the cleaning up of my body! Well, tha'ts my experience, which may not be very clear as to the result!
If you want to know about the procedure. When you arrive at the hospital, they make you drink a contrast drink. They take you in, lie you down in front of this huge Tube (The cameras and engine are all stuffed inside it.) It took about 20 minutes for my chest, tummy and pelvis to be examined. They also injected me another contrast sort of paint. That was it. Well when drinking so much, I had to pee so much too!
The only thing is I booked the hospital transport ( better than the volunteers) . But my appointment was at around 6 pm. when I went back to the waiting room, they closed the service and put me somwhere else to wait for transport, saying, after 6 pm ambulance only transport emergencies! I had to wait an hour and a ahlf. The bloke who took me back home was shattered and raring to go home too.
Still it's best to book with hospital transport; at least you will be taken there and back, even if you have to wait some time - take a book with you! ( I had asked for a volunteer driver, but when he learned that it could take up to 2 hours, he said he was only a volunteer and didn't want to do this! hat was I suppose to do. So I ahd to cancel my appointment! I did manage to ask the receptionist to take me to a nearer hospital, which she did and the journey time was nearer, but still quite long with waiting for the transport after!
Hope this experience helps a bit.
