Long weekend in Bath.

Hi to everybody on this site

Just got back from a long weekend in Bath. Beautfiful city but those cobbled streets are not exactly wheelchair friendly. We had to leave rented wheehchair in boot of car & I staggered about on foot. Made it to the Spa Baths & a few other places. The jump on and off tour bus is great, though. Felt a bit rough and breathless during stay but I made it. The oxygen holiday service is amazing. Only used it in the holiday let but still...Feel as though I accomplished something. Mind you I couldn't have done it without my two sisters1

Take care everybody in this hot weather.

Well done. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. It is years since I went to Bath. Is my memory correct in thinking it is hilly?

Glad to hear you were still able to enjoy your holiday even though you were staggering on foot! Well done, TAD xx

Well done 2Malinka, Bath is a beautiful city but is quite steep in some of the side streets. Glad you enjoyed the Roman Baths. The many tea shops are fascinating too. The tour bus is a brilliant service as you say, access to the riverside is a bit difficult in some places but once down the paths are quite good. There are many things to see and it also has a reasonable sized shopping area, glad to hear you had a nice break.

Thankyou for your response. Bath is beautiful but I kept wishing I had visited 30 years ago when I was young & fit.. Still I am alive at 64 so I shoudn't be so negative.

Once again, thank you.

Great to hear you enjoyed Bath, lovely place though it's a while since I've been.

It's hard enough getting out and about with breathing problems. Many a time I've stopped gasping half way up a hill the size of Everest and wished for a guide-rope and a few Sherpas to haul me the rest of the way. ;-)

With this in mind might I personally guide everyone to a very useful site which will certainly help should you decide to visit somewhere and need to know if it's accessible.

I'm not here to plug this, I'm giving this across to help because I know what it's like to look forward to going somewhere, only to find I can't get around. I also know what it's like to smile and hide the disappointment while telling everyone to go off and enjoy themselves, then settle down in the car until they all come bouncing back.

Take a look at this site euansguide.com ..... it's disabled access reviews by disabled people.

Hi you are lucky that you can even contemplate a hill! I even have problems negotiating the flats so I would be grateful for ny help re disabled access.

I mean of course a mole-hill Delia (haha) anything larger receives a head-shake seeing as I no longer own a stout pair of walking shoes anymore. Twenty years with COPD and the only thing I wear are a comfortable pair of driving shoes. Hope Euans Guide helps you in your quest for accessible places to visit and if you do find any good flats, give us all a shout and we'll plan a COPD coach party hahaha ;-)
